Hi I'm Dirk Burton

I am an avid hat collector. I am an electrician. I rappel, climb, hike, swim, bicycle, ski, & sleep. And... I am a Mormon!

About Me

I love the outdoors. I enjoy working with the Boy Scouts. I work with electricity. I have a fantastic hat collection which I display on YouTube (see it under Dirkhats).I am an Adjunct Professor, I am a Continuing Education Provider for electricians. I am a member of the NFPA and IAEI. I ran for Mayor of West Jordan in 2013 and plan to run again in 2017. Started my first business in 1982. Became an Electrical Contractor in 1988. I received approval from the State of Utah to teach Continuing Education in 2000.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It has brought joy to my life and helped me see pass the problems of the moment to focus one the eternal prospective. As a boy I was raise in the church by faithful parents who believed what they taught. As an older teenager, I questions live and some of my basic teachings. I did not want to be a hypocrite. I had to know for myself if the Gospel of Jesus Christ was real and truth as I had been taught if I was going to live my life according to the teaching of Jesus Christ. Otherwise I will leave the church and call it a fraud. I spent my time studying and reading the Book of Mormon. Reviewing what I had been taught about Joseph Smith and church doctrine. I believed in God, and knew him to be a real an loving being. I realized God is more intelligent than us all and I believed he has the ability to communicate with his children, with me. I spent many nights on my knees in prayer and promised God that I would follow his advice in whatever direction he presented for me to go. God did answer my prayers - very clearly! From this, and other experiences, I know that God is real. I know Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. I know the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. I know the Bible contains true doctrine of Christ. I know the the atonement of Jesus Christ is real in my life. I am happy to be a member of the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-day Saint!

How I live my faith

I am a religious person. I look at this differently from someone I call a church goer. A church goer attends church for the approval of others. To have themselves appear to be part of the group. A religious person is one who lives what they believe (weather or not anyone else notices). A religious person lives their life for God and our fellowman. It is not about me, it is about others. I try to lift the spirits of those of whom I get to come in contact, by talking to them or by helping them. In the end the awards and glory will fade away. But the relationships we build with others and those whom we help lift their spirits and bless their lives will make an eternal difference.
