Hi I'm Arthur

I grew up on Long Island, New York. I work as a medical doctor. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Germany, the oldest of 3 children. We moved to Queens, New York when I was 6. I met my wife in Germany, after I returned to attend medical school. We have 6 children and so far 4 grandchildren, with 2 more on the way. I am very fortunate to be blessed with a career as a medical doctor, because I enjoy helping other people, living a healthy lifestyle and staying physical fit. I enjoy outdoor activities like running, swimming, biking and landscape gardening. I also enjoy travelling and meeting people from different counties and cultures. I enjoy science, history and good music.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while I attended medical school. Growing up I had the opportunity to attend 2 different Lutheran schools from grades 2 through 6. I was fascinated by the Bible, especially by the stories of our Savior Jesus Christ and the great love that he has for us. I loved the way that he healed the sick, especially since I grew up with parents, who were both medical doctors, and a grandmother, who worked in nursing. I had many unanswered questions about why there are so many different churches in the world and what happens after death to the many good people in our world, who are non-Christian. I also recall asking why it is that we are supposed to keep the Sabbath Day holy, by not working on Sundays, but the pastor earns his living on Sundays. When I first met the 2 Elders, who were younger than me, without any formal education in theology, I was fascinated by their ability to answer these and many other questions to my satisfaction. I was also fascinated by their ability to master the German language, without having grown up with it, as I did. When they introduced the Book of Mormon to me, I knew that it was true, as soon as I started to read it. It compliments the Holy Bible and it demystifies it. I was very impressed that the missionary Elders, as well as all other church officers, do the Lord's work for free. Two of my sons have served full time 2 year missions and one is now getting ready to serve his full time mission. In fact the whole church is totally run by an ever increasing Army of volunteers, who joyfully serve that Lord at their own expense. I enjoy the blessings of being a part of this great religious movement, while leading a normal life as a family man, and earning my living as a professional.

How I live my faith

The church has blessed me with a great many opportunities to serve. I joined the church while attending medical school and Germany. Since then I have had the opportunity to share the gospel with a lot of different people and to make many new friends and acquaintances. I enjoy visiting people in their homes. I also enjoy giving talks on a variety of interesting gospel topics to various congregations on Sundays. I have the opportunity to attend various planning meetings and to help to organize different church activities. I do a lot of motivational interviews. I have had the opportunity to extensively research my family history and to assist my wife and other people with their personal family histories. Last fall I gave a class, open the public, on Germanic genealogy and I plan to do this again this year.
