Hi I'm Tyler Spahr

I am from Mesa Arizona, got baptized at 17, am married with a little girl and our family is growing, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from Pennsylvania originally but moved to Mesa Arizona when I was 7 and have lived here since. I served a mission in Spokane Washington and loved it. I have a daughter and our family is currently growing and my wife and I could not be more excited. I am a graduate of college and I am hoping to attend law school. I play hockey as much as I can. My brother and I are the only members in our immediate family and I had the privilege to baptize and confirm him. I love my family and love life. I love music, not just church music, it has helped me with many things in life. Music and sports and very important to me.

Why I am a Mormon

Because I was searching for years, praying to God but just did not go to church. I did not drink, smoke, or anything like that before I joined and saw the happiness that exists in the church by seeing the examples of those around me. My life was at a crossroads, do I choose religion and God or do I not and possible end up looking for answers. This church has brought me happiness I did not know existed and so much so that my brother wanted the same thing.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being me. I immerse myself in my family and enjoy spending time with them. When life gets hectic I enjoy going to the temple to either walk around and be on the grounds or do a session. I am not a guy that will stand up on a soap box and preach the gospel, rather I live by example. I try to do the right thing in all things and understand that I am not perfect but will continue to do the best I can in all things. I am a teacher in the church and I am trying to improve as a home teacher.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Tyler Spahr
Women have just as much pull and weight to carry in the church as men, if not more, dare I say. My wife is the backbone of our family, she supports me in everything that I do and is an amazing mother to my little girl. Without her I am not complete. Although she may not have the priesthood, she has just as much responsibility in me holding it as I do. Although I may hold it I am not greater than her, she is very much my equal in all things and more often than not what she says goes. I have complete faith that this is how it is supposed to be and although I may not know why, I do know that God would never want someone to feel above or below someone, he wants us all to feel as though we are equal.
