Hi I'm C.R. Bob Joy

I grew up in Arizona. When I graduated from ASU in 1971, I was the first in my family to do so.

About Me

I attended 13 different grade schools; my father was a highway and bridge builder. He was the Superintendent and would start every project his company got. I have worked in the Construction Industry most of my life. At one point, I took a break from construction and coached college football for 5 years. One of my hobbies is hunting, and with my wife, we have traveled and hunted on 3 different continents. For a time, we had an interest in a TV hunting show, filming & producing as well as hunting for the show. Most importantly, I am a husband and a father of 3 daughters and 2 sons, and a grandfather of twelve, 7 girls and 5 boys. Our oldest, a granddaughter, is currently serving a fulltime mission. We have been preparing for our opportunity to serve as missionaries for several years and are excited that our dream is coming true, as we report to the Missionary Training Center in Provo in less than 2 weeks.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a young child I did not have the opportunity to attend church. As a result, there were lots of questions that were very serious to me; "what will happen to my Daddy if he gets killed?" and "will I ever see him again?". My family was very close and I was afraid that we would be separated when my older sisters got married. I never voiced my concerns about things we experienced, like the death of a worker who had an accident on the job, because no one was comfortable talking about such things. When my oldest sister and her husband joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and came to visit, they would take me to the services with them when they were in town. When I went away to college to play football, 2 of my teammates were returned missionaries from the same church my sister had joined, and they introduced me to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Plan of Salvation. As I studied, there in front of me were the answers to my childhood questions and concerns! I began to understand where we came from and that our life here on this earth has a definite purpose. And yes, we could live together again as a Family, that death does not separate us permanently from our loved ones if we keep the Commandments of our Heavenly Father and embrace the opportunity that the Atonement of our Savior,Jesus Christ, affords us.

How I live my faith

Since joining the church while attending college, I have had opportunities to provide service by teaching the youth classes, working in the scouting program, visiting the homes of different members on a monthly basis, attending Church services, and accepting opportunities to serve the other members of our ward and community in many different ways. Tendering care as the need arises, helping a stranded motorist, feeding the homeless - as a disciple of Jesus Christ, I try to do as he would have me do and love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
