Hi I'm Catherine Wight

My family came from El Salvador yet I am Canadian. I am a convert and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and I rarely travel out of Canada. My parents and grandparents are from El Salvador. My parents moved to Canada over 30 years ago. I am now graduating for my graphic communications and print technology program, have been married to my wonderful husband for almost 2 years and we are having our first child this year. I have never been so happy in my life!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Catholic church but I didn't really follow the teachings and most of the time I felt like I was in the wrong place. By age 12, I stopped believing. throughout my teenage years, I was an Atheist and I thought I was happy. When I met my husband, I didn't know about the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints nor what they truly believed in. My husband was raised in the church and his family has been members of the church since Joseph Smith's time. He introduced me to many great friends and I felt like I was home for the first time. I became curious and investigated quietly for a year. When I met with the missionaries of the first time, I knew this was where I belonged! That day they asked me if I wanted to be baptized and I immediately said yes! Why? Because I know this church is true. I know God and Jesus Christ lives. I know that this is their church. I know this because of my investigation and because I read the book of mormon. The only way to know is to investigate, research, ask of God [James1:5] and learn the truth.

How I live my faith

I have a calling as a ward missionary with my husband. It is really fun! Our ward mission leader happens to be a good friend of my husband and we get to help the missionaries 2 to 3 times a week. I also love to visit teach. I have a great Visiting teaching companion who is just as happy to be there for other sisters. I have also had the opportunity to help the community of High river with the association "Mormon helping hands" last year when there was a great flood and High river was destroyed. I love helping people in any way I can!

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Catherine Wight
Jesus Christ taught us that we are to love one another and help each other. we don't just help ourselves, we try to help all. Wether a member or not, we are willing to help people move into new homes, feed those who are unable, help with demolitions of homes who have been flooded and help reconstruct them. we try to help in any way we can.
