Hi I'm Devon

I grew up in Southern California. I love my wife. I'm a soon-to-be father. I'm a musician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Southern California, and I will always be a true SoCal kid at heart. I love to surf, swim, and basically do everything there is to do at the beach. I love to play sports like basketball, volleyball, and water polo. My wife and I recently moved out to Salem, OR for my job, and so far we love it! Oregon is a beautiful place with awesome people. One of my most influential hobbies/interests is music. I love to play instruments, sing, songwrite, and compose. Music is the one universal thing that can bring a smile to anyone's face. Whether I'm performing in front of a crowd, or just jamming with my family and friends, I love to see the smiles on everyone's faces when they hear their favorite music.

Why I am a Mormon

I have many friends who are not of my faith who I respect very much. Some of them would say that the reason why I am Mormon is because I was raised in this Church and haven't known any different. To that I always say that they're right, and that I couldn't be any happier that my parents raised me in this Church! Sure, to some it may seem like I've been "brainwashed" or something like that, but that is obviously not the case. My parents always told me that they knew the Gospel of Jesus Christ was true, but they also told me that I needed to find that out for myself. I really appreciated that and took it to heart, knowing that my parents were helping me exercise the power of choice, and the power of gaining my own testimony. The result of my parents' admonition is quite clear, since I am here today, telling the whole world that I know this Church is true and that through the power of Christ it brings more happiness than one could ever imagine!

How I live my faith

I am a firm believer that the best way to live my faith is to let it be a central part of me. For me, there is no segmentation from my "Church life" and "work life" and "school life" etc. I know that my Savior lives and that He's given us the greatest gift ever! Why would I suppress that happiness that I feel? My wife and I love to serve our local congregation and the community. Currently we serve as teachers for our Sunday School class, which has proven to be a huge blessing in our lives. It may sound cliche, but I truly feel that my wife and I have learned so much more about Christ through teaching His words than we normally would have just listening. I'm so grateful for this opportunity we have to serve and grow together.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Devon
God is unchanging. He loves His children from thousands of years ago just as much as His children today. Because He loves His children so much, He wants them to receive His guidance and counsel here on earth. Just as the Old Testament prophet Amos taught, God gives guidance to His children through prophets. I know that in the present day, God has shown us His love by calling a living prophet. I know that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet of God. Show more Show less
