Hi I'm Emily

I grew up in South Carolina and currently live in New York with my husband and 4 children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

After growing up in South Carolina, I attended BYU, then served a mission for the Church in Barcelona, Spain. I married my husband in Columbia, South Carolina then began our lives of frequent moves and having children. We finished up schooling at BYU and had our first son. We then moved in North Carolina for 2 years while my husband started law school and we had our second child, a girl. My husband then realized that he wanted to return to graduate school rather than finish law school, so we moved to Florida for 4 years, and had 2 more boys. We then took a one year job at BYU, then moved to Arkansas for one year and moved to New York recently. Although we have moved more than I ever dreamed I would, we have found joy in our lives and appreciate meeting so many different people and seeing many different parts of the United States.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because it brings joy and security into my life. I have felt plenty of uncertainty and unrest in my life, but have found that as I remain close to the Savior, I have felt peace throughout the uncertainty. I have also received a strong confirmation that Joseph Smith was a prophet of the Lord. In reading about his experience in the Sacred Grove, I felt the Spirit confirm to me with clarity that God the Father and Jesus Christ truly visited Joseph Smith and directed him in how he should reorganize the Church. In knowing that Joseph Smith is a Prophet, I know further that the Book of Mormon that he translated is true and that the Church that he restored contains the fullness of the Gospel. I know that in order to return to live with my Heavenly Father, I must complete the ordinances necessary to enter His presence. I also know that living the Gospel brings joy into my life. I am so grateful for my testimony and the opportunity that my husband and I have to teach our children the Gospel. I know that the Lord will continue to bless us as we strive to follow the plan that He has laid our for us.

How I live my faith

I currently work with the children in our Ward. I love teaching them and trying to create opportunities for them to feel the Spirit and develop their own relationships with the Savior. At home, I try to spend time every day reading the scriptures for myself, and with my children. We strive to feel the Spirit in our homes and treat each other with kindness, which is often a challenge with 4 young children who aren't always best friends. We try to enjoy the moments when everyone is happy and getting along and there is true peace and joy in our home.
