Hi I'm Cameron Raps

I'm grew up in Southern California. I'm a science fiction writer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a nerd at heart. I love to write science fiction and learn about history and philosophy. I love books and movies and video games. I plan on working with people in my future. I'm a baritone who loves to sing everything from hymns to alternative rock. I'm planning to pursue an Anthropology Major at Brigham Young University after my mission for the LDS Church in Federal Way, Washington.

Why I am a Mormon

Though I was born to a Mormon family, I did not have a very strong conviction of the truth until I was around 14 years old, when I gained a strong spiritual affirmation that Jesus Christ suffered and died for my sins, and that Joseph Smith was an instrument in the Lord's hands in restoring Jesus Christ's true church to the earth, the same church that existed 2000 years ago, unaltered and pure. Learning more about Jesus Christ has shown me just how closely the Mormon church follows the teachings of Jesus Christ, and why it was necessary for the Lord to restore the organization of the church as it was back then. My life has been blessed by my obedience to the perfect law of Jesus Christ, which teaches me to be humble, honest, and above all, kind. I believe that the restored church of Jesus Christ profoundly blesses every life it touches. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I'm currently a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As a young man, I participated in leadership callings among my peers. Later, I was called to teach a 9-year-old Sunday School class. I also served as a Webelos Assistant Scout Leader. I am an Eagle Scout, and I've been actively involved in the High Desert Community for years, working with the United States Forest Service to maintain Angeles National Forest recreational parks and visitors' areas. I've been in several musicals at the high school and community level, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the Drowsy Chaparone, and Little Shop of Horrors. I love to sing, and I continue to do so as part of the BYU Men's Chorus in Provo, Utah, where I am pursuing my general education. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has been a source of inspiration as I have worked to improve the lives of others through acts of service large and small.
