Hi I'm Joe

I was born near Salt Lake City, Utah. I love sports and I love music. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm just a normal guy, there's nothing extremely unique about me. I love life and I try to make the most out of any situation. I'm currently serving as a missionary in South Carolina, and I love it here. I have always and will always love playing sports and being active. I played sports all of my childhood. I also love music even though I don't spend as much time doing it as I want to. My family is the biggest blessing in my life, and always will be. I'm the youngest of 8 kids, 7 boys and 1 girl. All of my older siblings are incredible examples to me and I look up to them more than they could ever realize. All of them are mormons, and I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I've always been a Mormon. I was born into this church and raised by loving parents who taught me the teachings of our church. However, that is not why I am a Mormon today. It's not why I'm serving as a Mormon Missionary. I am a Mormon because I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the original, reestablished church of Jesus Christ, and because I know that, the only intelligent thing to do is to be a member of it. I know that the teachings of Jesus Christ are found in the most complete way here in this Church. I know that because God has made it known to me through the undeniable power of the Holy Ghost. I love being a mormon because living these teachings have made me more happy than I could have ever made myself without it. It doesn't matter what others think about Mormons, there's nothing that I would rather be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by keeping the standards of the church, but more importantly by being Christlike to everyone I meet. As a missionary I seek to share my faith with everyone I meet. Sharing the message of Jesus Christ and his restored gospel is where all my time and efforts are focused for the next two years, but afterwards I will continue to share the gospel while raising a family. I will always make myself available to the Lord for wherever and whenever he needs me.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

I know that God is there and that he loves me for several reasons. For one, I have seen distinct answers to very specific prayers of mine. I have also felt the power of his love for me which is a feeling that is impossible to describe. It is a feeling I could never create on my own; one that electrifies my soul and body in the most gentle way. In the Book of Mormon, a man asked the prophet Alma to show him a sign; he wanted proof that God existed, and Alma pointed out some of the most powerful signs that have been given to all of us. Some examples he gave were the testimonies of many including those in the scriptures. He also pointed out that the awe inspiring perfection of the Earth and the motion of all the planets witness that there is a supreme creator, which creator is God our Heavenly Father. What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a book of holy scripture just like the Bible. These two books go hand in hand and both testify of Jesus Christ. In any legal case, 2 witnesses are better than 1. The Book of Mormon is an additional witness of Jesus Christ and contains the fulness of his gospel. It comes from a record of the ancient American people who wrote down their dealings with God and was brought forth in the 1830's as an evidence that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was restored. All who read, ponder, and pray about this book can know by the power of God that it's true. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Faith is a multi-dimensional principle. It is first the "evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1) or a "hope for things which are not seen which are true" (Alma 32:21). It is also the motivating force behind all action. Once you have this faith, you can then strive the develop the kind of faith that becomes a power through which we can cause things to happen. By faith God created the world, and by exercising faith in Jesus Christ we can draw on the powers of heaven to achieve any righteous desire. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

A scripture in the Book of Mormon says "We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ..." (2 Nephi 25:26). Missionaries share the gospel of Jesus Christ. We share that it was restored through a prophet named Joseph Smith. We help others understand the role of prophets in God's plan for us. We teach about the Atonement of Jesus Christ and how we can live his gospel. We share about God's plan for us and what he's asking from us today. Above all, missionaries invite all to come unto Christ by living what we teach and by studying, pondering, and praying to know if it's true. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Jesus Christ's restored church on the earth today. All things that we must do to follow Jesus Christ have been restored in the proper order. The gate we enter to follow Jesus Christ in our lives is baptism, and the authority to do so was restored through Joseph Smith. Being part of his restored church means we have made a promise to follow him and keep his commandments, and we promise to always remember him. In turn he promises us to be clean and have his spirit. This two war promise is a covenant, and we make this particular covenant at baptism. At church each week we take the Sacrament to renew that covenant. Show more Show less

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

To carry out his work of salvation among all men, Christ commanded his apostles to go out and "teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost." (Matt 28:19) How could anyone do something in the name of these three beings unless they had specific authority given them to do so? The priesthood is the authority God has given man to act in his name for the salvation of his children. It is absolutely essential for any saving ordinance whether that be baptism, giving the gift of the Holy Ghost, or the Sacrament. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

The Atonement is the process by which Christ overcame physical and spiritual death. Spiritual death means separation from God and he overcame it by suffering the penalty for our sins in the garden of Gethsemane. We can then overcome this by living his gospel. He overcame physical death by laying down his own life and then rising again (John 10:17-18). He alone as the son of God had the power to do that, and by so doing he "loosed the bands of death" for all of us (Alma 7:12). Because of that we will all be resurrected one day and stand before God to be judged. The Atonement is something we can never fully understand because of the divine nature of it, and the amount to which we do understand it is almost impossible to put into words. As we feel God's love and the enabling power that comes through our Savior Jesus Christ, we know for sure that he suffered for us. By living his gospel we can be assured that Christ is our redeemer.
