Hi I'm John

I grew up on a small farm in Orem Utah, I am a member of the Mormon church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints).

About Me

I grew up in a musical family. My father sang classical (operatic, art songs and such) Mom accompanied him. All of my siblings except one played instruments or sang in school choirs. Dad would take us to perform for various organizations. I am interested in woodworking (I like to build toys mostly), model railroading, music, and riding steam trains. I like learning about archeology, seeing how people used to live.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was young, my parents attended church quite sporadically. When i was a teenager, I started attending Seminary classes where I learned about the scriptures. I read the Book of Mormon for the first time. It was rather strange to me. My sister and I attended church quite regularly while we were teenagers and shortly after high school. There was some encouragement to serve a mission for the LDS church, but I am by nature quite reserved and did not want to go. I dated a young woman and tried to get her to marry me, but she went on a mission. While she was gone, I attended church where I was away at college. I listened to a talk by one of the church leaders named A. Theodore Tuttle. I received a strong impression that I should serve a mission. When the young woman returned from her mission, I told her that I had decided to go on one also. When I was on my mission I was asked to participate in the sacrament preparation. As I was praying to bless the sacramental emblems, I felt a very powerful witness that Jesus Christ is my Savior, that He died for me. That He and my Father in Heaven love me and know who I am. I had many opportunities during and since my mission to see Heavenly Father's hand in my life and in the lives of others. I have seen people healed of illnesses and been blessed myself to overcome problems in my life. God knows who we are, He loves each of us and wants us to prepare to live with Him again. It is through the Atonement of Jesus Christ that this is possible. The Church of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth to provide the authority and knowledge so that we can qualify to return to Heavenly Father's presence.

How I live my faith

I have served in many ways in my church, helping people with their yards, or homes. Repairing damage or making home improvements. I enjoy teaching Sunday School and learning about the history of Biblical and other ancient civilizations.

What is the priesthood?

John
The power to bless the lives of others. To give them comfort in illness and trials. To heal them from disease. I once participated in a blessing of a mand who had angina and was preparing for surgery. Following the blessing he went to see the doctor and the symptoms had lessened to the extent that he did not require the surgery. In addition, a finger which had been injured early in his life suddenly had feelings again. Show more Show less
