Hi I'm Hector

I was born in Honduras but live in the US. I have a wonderful family and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a wonderful family and I have enjoyed watching my children grow up and start to head to college. I studied Animal Science and now do international sales for a local company. I enjoy the outdoors and plan to learn how to be a better golfer this year. I enjoy taking pictures and working in our flower garden and enjoy watching soccer and NBA games along with watching my children play in school sports. I'm originally from Honduras and proud of my family heritage and the legacy they have left me.

Why I am a Mormon

I remember when I was 10, I was curious about religion. My mother was Catholic, but not practicing for personal reasons. I met some boys from a different church that invited me to learn about their beliefs, and while I enjoyed the lessons taught by their father, I felt no attachment to it. One day, as I was playing outside in my apartment building in California with some friends, I felt the greatest a sensation come over me, and heard what felt like a voice that simply whispered "turn around". It took awhile to heed the feeling, but when I turned around, I saw two young men walking on the side walk towards me. I walked right up to them and asked who they were. They were Elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They were a little surprised to have a boy come up to them, but I invited them to come to my home. My mother was shocked to come out of the bedroom and find these strangers in our apartment. I learned that day that my Mother had been baptized in the church, but never returned after leaving Honduras. I listened to their lessons and forever will remember the feelings I felt when around them. I learned of the story of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. The stories were amazing, but I could relate to the feeling of wanting to know if God's church was on the earth. I have been an active member every since, and I am forever grateful for the Holy Ghost whispering ever so gently that day, and for God paying attention to a little boy like me. I love the church and the restored gospel, and I now know that he has provided a way for us to know truth when we hear it. God lives today and he is real. I am grateful for my Savior and for his teachings.

How I live my faith

I have served in many different callings in church and currently teach the Gospel Doctrine class. My first time teaching adults in this setting. I was a little intimidated especially since this year where I am teaching about the Old Testament, but I knew if I was needed in that position, the Lord would help me be successful at it. He has never failed me. The church has provided our family with many challenging and rewarding opportunities to learn and apply gospel principals in our lives. It has given us direction and understanding of our relationship with God and it has been a source of strength for the trials that have come in our lives.
