Hi I'm Mark D Potter

I grew up in Utah and served a mission to Japan. I am a father, grandfather and religious educator.

About Me

My name is Mark. My wife, Kayleen, and I are the parents of five children, four daughters and one son. Three of our daughters are married and we are the grandparents of three beautiful grandchildren. Our fourth daughter attends BYU and our son is serving a mission. I am currently a Director of Seminaries and Institutes for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have been a truck driver, carpenter, exploration geologist, rock climber, runner and rodeo clown. I enjoy the out doors and I am a wanna-be fly fisherman.

Why I am a Mormon

I am the second of ten children born to wonderful loving parents. They taught all of us how to live the Gospel by both precept and example. I have a firm testimony of Jesus Christ. Everything I have learned in life teaches me that God lives and that Jesus is the Christ. My scientific training as a geologist and graduate work as an educator have bolstered my testimony that truly "all things testify that there is a God". He knows and cares for each of his children. He is able to bless us in all our circumstances. I love teaching and serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

I have had many callings in the Church, from the Nursery to Bishop. I have been in Scouting for many years and really enjoy helping the young men reach and achieve their goals. I am currently the President of our Ward Young Men organization and Venture leader. We are serving in a Spanish speaking Ward, so we are trying desperately to learn a new language. We are a camping and backpacking group and really enjoy getting out side. We set aside one Tuesday a month to go on teaching appointments with the missionaries in our area. I have been a Seminary and Institute Instructor for 29 years and have a great love for the youth. I am fortunate to study and teach the Gospel every day.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Mark D Potter
We do not worship Joseph Smith. We do worship God the Eternal Father and his Son Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith was a remarkable man, chosen by God to serve Him as the Prophet of the latter days. Just and Moses and Isaiah were prophets to the people of their time and were the spokesmen for God, teaching and warning the people. Joseph Smith was the first of the prophets to be called by God in our day. Through the instrumentality of Joseph Smith the prophet, God and Jesus Christ were able to restore Priesthood authority and reveal gospel truths for the guidance of His children on the earth today.
