Hi I'm McKay Murphy

I grew up in Camas, Washington. I love music, nearly anything geeky and math. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in the Northwest United States. I grew up in the LDS faith and attended BYU-I for the Fall 2013 and Winter 2014 tracks. I am currently undeclared but am looking more towards an Aerospace Engineering emphesis. I am serving my mission in the New Mexico Albuquerque Mission from June 2014-2016. I started playing the Alto Saxophone in about 5th grade and stuck with it since. I really love playing jazz and big band music, though I prefer listening to alternative rock, classic rock and indie rock. I have always loved watching anything geeky. I grew up watching Star Wars and quickly adapted to other shows like Doctor Who and Firefly!

Why I am a Mormon

There are many reasons why I'm a part of this faith. The people are amazing, from teachers to students, bishops to assistants, everyone is friendly. The principals we believe in don't limit us at all, but are protecting us from dangers in the world. But the reason why I am still a part of this faith today is because I know for myself that it is true. The ability to receive personal messages and comfort from my Savior is a tremendous gift, one I am blessed to have. Praying, pondering and searching the scriptures has built my own testimony of this church, as Heavenly Father has opened my eyes to the truth of this world. Being a part of the Lord's Church is and has never been easy. Nor do I believe it will be. But our simple sacrifices in this life bring great happiness, peace and direction, a greater reward than anything we can ever give up in this life.

How I live my faith

I was a home teacher up at BYU-I and I continued that calling with my dad back at home, both before and after college. I help out with Eagle Scout projects when those come around and other jobs members may assign to me. I participated in many of our branches events including the scouting program and a simulation Handcart company trek into the Eastern Washington more desert-like areas. I attended the Grass Valley Ward each Sunday with the occasional visit to a friend or family's ward. Currently, I am serving in the New Mexico Albuquerque Mission. I have served in Cloudcroft and Albuquerque so far!
