Hi I'm Malia Torbenson

I am a student at BYU-Idaho. I love traveling, reading, music, and sports. I am bilingual. I am a triathlete. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Wisconsin with my three older brothers and two younger sisters. I love sports, especially soccer and football. Go Packers! I am attending BYU-I and am working on my Public Health Major and Spanish Minor. I have been taking Spanish for 16 years now. I pretend to play the piano every once in a while. I love doing triathlons. I love being outside and going on adventures. Traveling is my passion and I yearn to see the world. I served a full time mission in Guatemala where I was able to serve and share the word of God around a year ago!

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my whole life. I grew up learning about Jesus and about the restoration of his Church. But I never really sought out for myself if the things were true. I just believed that if my parents knew it was true, then it must be. I was way wrong to think I could just borrow their testimony. I think my conversion started during the summer of 2010. That summer I attended a week long camp called "Especially for Youth." Something grew inside of me that week that made me realize that I, for myself knew that this is true. I decided to act. I prayed. I prayed a lot. That summer I prayed more than I ever had in my whole life. I then I got answers. By way of the Holy Ghost, I gained a testimony that the Book of Mormon is true. I also gained a testimony that this IS Christ's Church and the things taught in it ARE true. I knew and still know that we have a modern day prophet who is the mouth piece of the Lord. Joseph Smith did in fact see and speak with the Father and His son Jesus Christ. Through Joseph Smith, Christ's Church was restored and I know that this is that true church. Since that summer I have increased my testimony of the things of this church. One of the greatest areas I have gained testimony, has been in Jesus Christ and His Atonement. My love for Him and my Heavenly Father and my faith in them has increased as I have studied the scriptures and talks given by modern day prophets. I know that Christ died for me, for all of us. He died for our sins, our pains and afflictions, our temptations. He always knows exactly how we feel. Without this church I would be lost and I probably would not be here now. The gospel of Jesus Christ gives me direction in my life. It gives me a purpose in life. I find comport in the Scriptures; the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I find comfort in the teachings and principles. This gospel has given me everything and I know it is true. And that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in my day to day things that I do. I show my Heavenly Father and those around me that I am committed and love this gospel by studying my scriptures daily and praying all throughout my day. I try act Christ like in even the little things as holding the door open, giving someone a smile and a hello, giving a compliment, giving thanks to someone etc. I search for ways to serve those around me. If you look, there is always someone who needs help! I served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 18 months in Guatemala. I devoted my life 24/7 during those 18 months to my Lord. I had the amazing, life- changing opportunity to spread the "Good-news" that Christ lives, loves us, and has a plan for us!
