Hi I'm Laura

I'm an ice cream lover, a music enthusiast, I love spending time with my family and friends, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the fifth child of seven. I love spending time with my family--they are my strongest foundation and greatest joy. They make me laugh harder than anyone else in the world. I also love to read, anything from Harry Potter to The Grapes of Wrath. My friends and I love to go hiking and have adventures up the canyon. I am a lover of languages and I am studying to be a nurse. I have been called to serve as a missionary in the Taiwan Taichung Mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and for a long time I didn't feel like I had my own testimony of the gospel; I felt like I was feeding off of my parents' testimonies. Yet slowly, as I read the scriptures and prayed about them, I gained a testimony of my own--but it was such a slow process that I almost didn't notice. When I did though, I knew without a doubt that it was true. I'm a Mormon because I believe in Christ. It is through Him that I have been healed from unimaginable heartbreak that took me to a level of sorrow I never thought I could come out of. It is through Him that I have been able to retain hope, even in the bleakest of circumstances, every step of the way. It is through Him that I have been pulled out of darkness and shown exactly where to go. It is by Him that I have felt inexplicable peace and joy. I am serving a mission because I want to teach people the message of light and hope that He provides. I want to teach people that families can be together forever, because I love mine more than anything. I want to teach people that the gospel I believe in is for the extremely imperfect of us, who are striving to be better. I want to share with people scriptures from the Book of Mormon, such as Mosiah 15:18, which reads, “And behold, I say unto you, this is not all. For O how beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that is the founder of peace, yea, even the Lord, who has redeemed his people; yea, him who has granted salvation unto his people”—which, to me, is the simplest, most beautiful testimony of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we make mistakes, He is the way by which we can repent, be completely forgiven, and be filled with goodness once again. It is a message of joy, and I hope to be able to not only share it on my mission, but throughout my life as well.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by finding the simple joys and silver linings of life. I love to see how my Heavenly Father blesses me each day. He blesses me so much through my family and the people around me. I live my faith by fulfilling my calling as an instructor of the women in my ward to the best of my abilities. As I have taught them, I have felt Heavenly Father guiding me in knowing exactly what they need to hear, and I myself have learned things from teaching lessons that have blessed my life in ways I would never have imagined. I live my faith by spending time with my family and doing my best to reach out to others who may need a friend.
