Hi I'm Alyssa

I'm a huge sports fan. I'm an aspiring teacher that is currently serving a mission in Singapore and Malaysia and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

Born and raised in the church, I am the daughter to a wonderful mom and dad, and have two younger sisters as well as a Maltise Poodle who I love to play with. I love being a daughter and a sister, and believe it is one of the greatest jobs I have in life. I'm a college student studying Elementary Education, and am so excited to be a teacher. I love learning and can't wait to share that with the children I teach! I've worked as a cashier at a Bakery and Cafe, and have also enjoyed running and creating a Children's Sports Camp with some friends in my neighborhood. Athletics are a huge part of who I am as I played soccer for numerous years and have been going to football games with my dad since I was really little. In high school, I played varsity basketball and got to be the sideline reporter for my high school radio station. As a college student, I watch nearly every school football or basketball game, and my friends and family always joke that I could probably tell someone more about sports than half of the boys they know! I have a passion for music and love to sing off-key around my house. I've played piano since I was 5 and enjoyed recently doing a performance of a Schumann concerto with my city orchestra. I love laughing, eating ice-cream, going to Disneyland, talking with my friends and family, sunshine, using social media, being outdoors, walking on the beach, taking pictures, smiling, and life! It's such a wonderful gift, and I'm grateful I get to live it everyday.

Why I am a Mormon

I have learned for myself through prayer, scripture study, and the promptings of the spirit that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church on the Earth today, that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and that Jesus Christ lives, is our Savior, and loves us unconditionally. Although I have grown up in a family who has taught this to me since I was little and I have always been a member of the church, there came a time in my life when I began to question if the church really was true. At this point in my life, I realized that I could no longer rely on what my parents told me, I had to know for myself. By asking Heavenly Father, and having faith to act by reading the Book of Mormon and going to church, I got my answer as 'yes - the church is true.' The Holy Ghost testified to me of the truthfulness of this gospel not through an overwhelming vision, but slowly and surely through feelings in my heart. Line upon line, precept upon precept, I have had moments that have increased my testimony and conversion to the church until I have reached the point I am at today. However, my conversion is still happening, and my testimony is still growing! I love this gospel not only because I know it's true, but because of how it makes me feel. It makes me feel happy, and it gives my life purpose and direction. It gives me the stability I need in a world full of confusion and change. It gives me hope and peace and joy to know that I will live again with my family, and that I have a Savior who loves me more than I can comprehend. It gives me comfort to know that Heavenly Father and Christ have a plan for me, want me to return to live with them again, and know how to help me during times of trial. Simply, the gospel makes me happy and helps me feel the love my Savior and Father in Heaven have for me. I know that they love you too, and the gospel can help you feel this love, purpose and joy more fully in your life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to keep the commandments and do what the Savior would do in my everyday life. I do it because I know it's right, and because it makes me happy! To me, living my faith means that I am striving to BECOME like the Savior, and although I am far from perfect at this, because of the Savior and His Atonement, I know that if I give it my best, it will be good enough. I try and love everyone around me and see the good in them. I smile at people and try to find ways to serve them and brighten up their day. I strive to be positive, happy, and kind. In my church, I was asked to teach people my age about basic gospel principles and the scriptures. It was intimidating, but I loved it; it was very rewarding. For the next 18 months of my life, I will be living in Singapore and Malaysia, telling people about the Savior and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Although leaving my friends, family, and schooling is hard, I couldn't be more excited to go because I will get to share the happiness I feel through the gospel with other people! Hopefully they will get the chance to feel the happiness I do through the message I will be sharing.
