Hi I'm Thomas James Elia Kerr

I am a local boy from Hawaii, college graduate, and am a full-time missionary serving in Tokyo South Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I went to college and graduated with a bachelors of science degree. Majored in chemistry and health sciences. I like to play volleyball and soccer.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church and I have come to the understanding of how merciful the Lord Jesus Christ is unto me and people of this world. Through the church and reading the Book of Mormon I have learned that God has a plan for all of us. My favorite scripture comes from the book of 1st Nephi in chapter 7 verse 3. The part I liked in that verse was this: "...for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them." From this part of the verse 7 I learned that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ always provides us a way to accomplish the things we can do in life. When I was in high school, I started to say a saying in my heart and mind, "The Lord will provide a way." Ever since then I have always followed and believed in that phrase that the Lord will provide a way for us to be successful in life. The teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has really helped me to be able to recognize a lot of wrong things that are in the world today. Since I could recognize those wrong things, I kept myself away from them. From keeping myself away from those wrong things, I was able to see why the Lord commands us to keep his commandments. When we really do keep his commandments, he will tremendously bless us. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and it has taught me how to become a much better person. I am grateful for knowing God's Plan of Salvation. I do want to be together with my family in this life and the life afterwards in the celestial kingdom. I am so blessed to have the knowledge given unto me. I am very grateful for the priesthood and the ability to perform many ordinances in the church. I truly believe that this is God's true church on the earth and that the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored on the earth. I believe that Thomas S. Monson is our prophet. I say this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

How I live my faith

I pray every morning and every night. I go to church almost every Sunday and attend my priesthood meetings. I serve the Lord faithfully by keeping the commandments. I have prayed and asked for forgiveness of my sins. The Lord has blessed me with a wonderful family that shows love, care, and support for me.

What is faith?

Thomas James Elia Kerr
Faith is believing that things that are not seen but are true. I always believed that the Lord provided a way for me to be successful in life. No matter how hard life got, the Lord always provided a way me us to overcome my weaknesses and challenges. I never know the way the Lord has prepared for me, but I know and believe that he will make it known unto me. The reason why I believe and know that Lord will show me his way is because I have faith in Jesus Christ. Having faith means to rely on Jesus Christ, our Savior, no matter how easy or hard things become in life. It also means to hold on to him to seek guidance, direction, and purpose to our lives. For many years I had wondered what it really means to have faith. Now as a missionary, when I am with my companion and doing missionary work all I can rely on is my faith in Jesus Christ. It took me a while to understand what faith is but just like it said in Alma 32:28-43, it takes a little bit for a small particle of faith to grow in each of us until we can fully understand it.
