Hi I'm Samantha Nelson

I grew up in a small town but have big city dreams. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Samantha and I am a sophomore in college. My passion is people. I want to help people for a living, specifically people who suffer from trauma and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I am a Certified Nursing Assistant and work at a nursing home. I love the elderly, but I also can't wait to work with people of all ages! I graduated high school in the Class of 2016 and am preparing to serve a mission in Bakersfield, California for the next 18 months! I would consider myself a very optimistic and outgoing person. I love to sing and dance, although I'm not very good at either. I enjoy riding my bike and spending time with friends and family. A few things I enjoy most in life are my dogs, laughing, smoothies, really soft blankets, and making lists.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up I had a lot of questions about God but nobody to answer them. I had friends who went to church with their families each week and attended youth groups on Wednesday nights, and every once in awhile I would go with them, but nothing I ever stuck with. When I was in the eighth grade I had a friend who invited me to do Zumba with her at her church on a Wednesday night. I went and had a blast! I met new friends and even recognized some of the girls there who were in my grade. I hung out with them the whole night, and before I knew it I was back for the next fun activity, and the next, and the next, until finally I started going every week no matter what they had planned. Eventually I met with the missionaries because I wanted to learn what this church was all about other than Zumba and service projects. The missionaries taught me, and on one occasion I remember learning about what we call The Plan of Happiness. As they taught the lesson, I listened intensely, learning the answers to the questions I had about God ever since I was a child. I learned where I came from, why I was here, and where I was going after this life. It was the first time I had heard this lesson, yet as they were telling me about God being my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ being the Savior of my soul, life before Earth and life after death, and this plan God had for me, it was as if they were reminding me of something I had once known and longed to be reminded of. That was the first time I knew God's church was true, and that I was right where I needed to be. Since that day I have changed, learned, and grown leaps and bounds. I have nurtured and grown my testimony and faith in God over the years, and felt His love for me everyday since that day. That is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by teaching others. I currently teach 3-5 year old children every Sunday for an hour. We talk about things like who Jesus is, how Jesus loves us, and what we can do to show Jesus that we love Him too. I also visit 5 women and their families each month to share a message with them and serve and help them in any ways they need. I am also preparing to serve a mission for my church. I will be going to Bakersfield, California and serving there for 18 months.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Samantha Nelson
No, we do not worship Joseph Smith. We worship God the Father and His son Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith was a prophet who was called by God and Jesus Christ to restore Christ's truths to the Earth. He was an important part of our church's restoration and we proclaim him and respect him, but we do not worship him. Show more Show less
