Hi I'm Ileen

I’m from Oregon; I’m a mom of 10; a grandmother of 33 and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love to read, visit with family and friends, enjoy the beauty of nature and play the piano or organ. I grew up in the small farming community. My great grandparents came from England, Denmark and Switzerland seeking freedom of worship.

Why I am a Mormon

I had the privilege of being chosen Mother of the Year from Oregon and National Mother of the Year. This allowed me the opportunity to visit many mothers throughout the United States and Puerto Rico where I spoke about the value of teaching our children how to be resilient. Adversity has made me aware of the suffering of others, the need to serve God by helping others and gratefulness for the blessings of family. I feel the importance of teaching our children to do hard things. Life will not always be easy for them and we must prepare them to stand strong and be resilient by allowing them to feel the consequences of their actions. I am currently serving a mission in South Carolina. Our mission motto is “I can do tough things, I do tough things first, I’m the first to do tough things and I’m a finisher.” I want to live that motto the rest of my life.

How I live my faith

Even when I was baptized at the young age of 8, I felt God’s love and since then I’ve seen his hand in my life as I’ve faced numerous trials. Our oldest daughter died at the age of 17 from an acute illness, my husband had cancer, and I had Thyroid and breast cancer. Our home burned down and with the help of many, many friends we rebuilt and moved into the new home just after my husband passed away.
