Hi I'm Elise

I grew up in California. I have 3 sisters. I am going to be serving as a missionary in Oregon, Portland starting on April 8, 2015.

About Me

I was born and raised in California. I am the third of four children, all girls. I have a very close relationship with my family and love to spend time with them. In my free time I love to play sports, watch movies, make glass art, listen to music, but the thing I love doing most is singing and playing my guitar. I love to play the hymns, oldies, and I also write my own songs. Right now I am working as a Cashier to save up money for my mission and college. In April I will be serving in the Oregon, Portland mission. I am so excited!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in this Gospel. But even though someone is born into it, that doesn't mean they were born with a testimony. Growing up I believed in the church, the parts that I understood, but I didn't know for sure. And then, I think I was 15, the leaders of the youth in my ward organized what they called, a Temple Trip. In a nutshell, for the duration of one week, we would visit every Temple in California and do baptisms for the dead, while also doing fun things in between each one. But, to be able to go, you had to read the entire Book of Mormon. This was a daunting task to me because I had never read the book in its entirety before. I really wanted to go on this trip, so I started reading. Finally after a few weeks I had finished it, but that wasn't the end. Moroni 4:10 reads- "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost." After reading this I knew that if I wanted to gain a stronger testimony that all I would have to do is ask God. And so I kneeled down and asked him. After I closed my prayer, I did not receive my answer. I was a little disappointed but I knew that because I had a desire to know, and because I had asked God, He would give me an answer. The next week was our temple trip! Most of the youth in my ward went and we were having so much fun! One of our last stops was the Los Angeles temple. We went to the visitor's center and got to watch a video of the restoration of the Gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith. And that is when it hit me. I felt the spirit so strongly, I knew it was testifying to me of the truth of what I read and of the Gospel. Now I know that the church is true and I cannot deny what I know. It brings me and my family happiness. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Right now I am teaching the 7 years olds in my ward. And I love doing that! I teach them about principles of the gospel and how even at their age, they can be examples of Christ. I also sing in my ward choir which is always a good way to invite the spirit. I love participating in any service project my church has whether it be making hats for the homeless or cleaning up a park.
