Hi I'm Jeff

I'm a pediatrician and father of six. I'm a self-taught accordion player and dutch oven chef.

About Me

I grew up in Northern California. My father is not a member of the Church, but my mom is and so was my grandmother. As a youth I enjoyed Boy Scout 50 milers and had my own paper route. In 6th grade I began learning Spanish and eventually majored in Spanish literature and Biology in college. Unlike some of my classmates, I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do after graduation. After working a year in Mexico studying corn plants, my life changed dramatically. The Lord sent a good young lady into my life, and through a series of powerful spiritual events, called me on a mission to South America. Fifteen years later, I can't imagine how my life would be without that two-year foundation. At the end of my service, I prayerfully sought guidance from the Holy Ghost to help me choose a career that would allow me to share my talents and serve others. It has now been 10 years since graduating from medical school, and my wife (who I met after my mission) and I have been blessed with a wonderful family. I credit it all to the Lord for opening these doors and patiently allowing me to choose to walk through them in humility and faith.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in a family with two religions, I had the opportunity to experience the Catholic faith and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It wasn't until I seriously considered serving a mission, that I felt I had to know for myself if what I would be teaching was true. I had fasted before, but somehow I had never tried fasting with a sincere, heartfelt purpose. Once I was ready to listen, with the intent to act on the answer received, an answer came. It was simple, direct, and powerful. I finally learned for myself that 1) God hears our prayers, 2) He knows and loves us individually, and 3) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is real. By real, I mean it really is the kingdom of God on the earth, restored in preparation for the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to this earth. Of this I bear solemn witness.

How I live my faith

When I wake up each morning, I roll out of bed onto my knees and thank my Heavenly Father and ask for His help for the day. At work I try to speak good of others and treat them as I would like to be treated. I try to be approachable and listen to others. At home we have morning prayer before school and read the Book of Mormon together in the evening. I love visiting families during the week with my home teaching companion because I always come away learning more about the gospel, their families, and myself in the process. I rely on the Atonement of Jesus Christ because I am not perfect, and I need his forgiveness and enabling power (grace) to overcome my weaknesses. I love to go to the Temple often because it helps me feel closer to the Lord and refocuses my mind and soul on what is truly important - eternal family relationships.
