Hi I'm Peter

I'm from Utah but live in California. I'm a high school English teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

You may think I've never wondered about other people in other faiths. I have. I love talking to people who cross paths with me about philosophy, literature, and religion. I love my faith because it makes me a better man. As an English teacher, I've studied and shared hundreds of stories that help my students pause and connect to their own lives. For me, being a teacher is awesome when students find that connection to what they value. There is truth out there in every great story. Come hear our story and find more.

Why I am a Mormon

Not only does it make sense to me intellectually, in a way that I firmly believe it fits hand in hand with science and history. But for me it is about how it makes me feel. This church is a joyful church. We have fun together. We help each other. I feel the spirit of God and I can't help but spend my life smiling and sharing that joy with everyone around me.

How I live my faith

One of the best parts of life is being there for other people. Everyone needs other people in their lives. The greatest scripture Jesus ever gave us was simply, "by this shall men know that ye are my disciples, that ye have love one for another." I love not just telling my students that I love them, but showing them. I listen to them. I take time for them. I ask them to look at their own lives and see how they fit into the world. Every week I ask them to consider what others do to help make the world better. At church, I love working with the youth in the Boy Scouts program. Like the Scout Oath says, we strive to "help other people at all times."

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

For me it is not just the obvious beauty, complexity, and wonder that I see in the world all around me. I know that God lives because I have heard his voice. No, I am not claiming to be Moses up on the mountain top. I am telling you that I have felt at peace, heard words in my mind, and even seen images in my dreams. I know he lives because when I have needed him most he has been there for me. Through his spirit, I have been able to say what needed to be said in times of crisis. He lives and his spirit is my inspiration. Show more Show less
