Hi I'm Aurélie

I'm a mountain + sunset loving Canadian. Soon I'll in France being called Soeur van Duyse, and I am so so excited! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 19 and there is too much cool stuff about me (I am also very humble). Growing up, I lived in Ontario, Quebec, Southern Alberta, and Benin Africa. I loved climbing trees (I still do), making up stories and poems in my head a laughing with good friends. I've always sung throughout the day. One day it's Ed Sheeran, next it's Jack Johnson, then John Denver of Cat Stevens. Singing makes life... personable and quite a bit more like a musical. I know, it's super cheesy but I don't know how I'd live without singing. During my last year of High school, I graphed and charted and analysed a few of the top best selling fiction novels of this century. It was really hard and even after I had some kind of idea on how writing a great book works, trying to write my own book was.... what I'd imagine weeding acres of vegetable gardens month after month would feel like. It's exhausting. My #1 passion is words (written or that need to be written), my close second is the mountains. I love driving out in the morning to watch the sunrise splash its light onto the mountains. I love hiking to mountain peaks and feeling like I've just conquered the world. I also love travelling. Europe, Canada, and even the US have a lot of unique life. More things that I love: special moments with my sweet siblings, movies with a little artsy side, books, cooking, kisses from two-year-olds.

Why I am a Mormon

God loved the world so much that He gave his only begotten Son. He loves me. And, even though I do not know you, I know that he loves you. There is so much joy in this gospel. The Church of Jesus Christ of Later day Saints is the true church of God. The Lord is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He spoke to prophets of old and He still speaks to them today. The Book of Mormon and the Bible have brought me so many blessing and bring me peace everyday. Being a Mormon makes it possible for me to attain my full, happy, laughing, joyous, living, potential.

How I live my faith

Everyday is a new opportunity to spread God's love and light. You never know if, just by smiling, you made someone's day twenty times better. I really want to make a difference in this world and I know that the best way to do that is to share the Gospel with those around me. It is by small a simple means that great things come to pass. When I lived in Benin I really learned the outcome of missionary work. There is a kind of light almost like a burst of energy that comes into people's lives. This light also came into my own as I shared my testimony of God's love. I never want to forget that feeling. I am the secretary of the Laurels in the Young Women's program. I find that this really helps the girls in our ward unite in ways that we don't always would think of. Last week we made care-packages for people in our neighbourhood who might have a hard time lately. Sometimes it's meals, sometimes genealogy, sometimes we simply get together and have fun. This program has shown me how service done out of genuine love is something that really can change your life. It makes you realize that we aren't just people walking down the street. We are children of God. We all have intricate and slightly complicated lives but it all comes down to the fact that we are all equal. We are all going through our own personal challenges. Maybe I was meant to help lighten someone's load today.
