Hi I'm Janeen

I grew up in Spokane, WA. I am a health enthusiast and a home-schooling mom of four. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a military spouse and a home-school mom to four, great kids. I enjoy maximizing life through great health and fitness. I maintain a nutrition website that stores my health information treasures as well as my favorite plant-based recipes. Training for triathlons keeps me focused and challenged. Completing two 70.3 races this year was a highlight and I look forward to many more. I also love getting my zen on by doing yoga and that is my focus in the off-season.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Mormon church right after my 18th birthday. I grew up in a protestant faith and had a lot of great friends who were LDS. I also had some friends (and family) who were very concerned about my decision to investigate the church and to, eventually, be baptized. At the time, it was difficult for me to describe to someone else why I wanted to join the church. I just felt in my heart it was the right thing to do, but I didn't have a deep knowledge of the doctrine of the church. This made it difficult for me to describe my feelings or reasons for joining the church. I just KNEW it was the right thing to do. Through time, my faith has gotten stronger through study, experience and prayer. The gospel has also helped me to understand my role in this life: who I am, where I am going, why I am here. This knowledge has made all the difference in the world because I have purpose and reason for everything I do. I am grateful for the knowledge that I have that the Godhead is three distinct and different people, who each have a separate, but unified role. Before I learned about the LDS faith, I was always confused about the doctrine of the Trinity - how could Jesus pray to himself? Why would He do that? The restored gospel made things so clear - not just with the nature of God, the Father, and Jesus Christ, his literal son, but with so many other things. One of the things I love about the church is our knowledge that we have a real Father in Heaven. He loves each of us and is aware of, and cares, about the smallest details in our lives. The Book of Mormon compliments and fills in so many holes in the Bible. I know that God is the same today as He was in the Old Testament. He LOVES us. He sends us prophets for today for our challenges. That makes sense to me.

How I live my faith

One of the reasons I am so passionate about health is because it enables me to serve the Lord in any capacity that comes my way. I strongly feel that we are all here for a specific reason. I am currently the music leader for the young children in our congregation. I love this job because we can sing and sometimes get a little crazy. I love home-schooling my own kids because I can incorporate my faith in all subjects and show them there is a Divine Creator and master plan for all of us. One of the things I love about the gospel is that I am reminded that we are all on our own journey back to our Father in Heaven, but we are doing it together.
