Hi I'm Jolene

I grew up on a ranch in Western Canada. I am the mother of 5 wonderful children. Three boys, two girls. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of 8 children. I grew up on a ranch in Southern Alberta. As a youth, I spent a lot of time taking care of my younger siblings and helping around the house by cleaning and gardening. I also spent a lot of time helping my dad chase cows and feed cows. I participated in the 4H Beef Cattle program for about 4 years. I loved playing and watching sports. My favorites are volleyball, softball and basketball. I currently work part-time at a Junior High School as an administrative assistant. I work with a great staff and I love getting to know the students. I took this job so I would be able to have the same holidays and my husband and children. Previously, I worked in a bank as a Financial Services Representative which I also loved. In my alone time, I love to play volleyball, read, run, workout, garden and clean my house. I don't have a lot of that kind of time. Most of my spare time is spent with my family. Which I feel so blessed to be able to do. I spend a lot of time watching my children participate in all kinds of activities, athletic and musical. As a family, we like to, play sports, watch movies, hike, snowboard or ski, go camping, ride horses, visit and work at Grandparent's houses, and go on vacations together.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As I grew my parents taught me about Jesus and his gospel. They taught me from the scriptures and then they lived their lives the way they taught. I had many experiences in my youth where I had a very strong feeling in my heart that this church was true. When I was young I was out riding on my parent's ranch and we were on top of a very tall hill that allowed us to see all over the countryside. As I was looking out I had a strong impression come to my mind telling me that Heavenly Father created that beautiful countryside and I felt that He must really love me. Another time I was at the LDS visitor center in Salt Lake City and I was looking at a display of the prophet, Joseph Smith when he saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in a vision. It was a very well done display, all the figures were life size. I had a strong feeling that that scene really did happen. It was true. Another time when I was still quite young, I finished reading the Book of Mormon all by myself. It had taken me over a year, but I had done it. When I finished the last page I had another strong impression that what I just read really happened and the things the book taught were true. I've come to know that these 3 experiences in my youth, along with many others that were similar throughout my life was the Holy Ghost teaching me of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying my best to be obedient to the teachings in the doctorine of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught us to love and serve Him and our fellow man. I try and do this by serving my family and teaching them about Jesus. I try to look for opportunities to serve outside my home also. Whether it's participating in community clean up, or helping someone move or just random things that I can be helpful at. Jesus also taught us to pray and read the scriptures and keep the commandments and pay our tithing and follow the prophets. It's overwhelming to think about doing all these things perfectly all the time, but as I try to do them consistantly as the years go by, I feel blessed with a stronger faith in Jesus Christ and my abilities to do all the things he has asked me to do. I love visiting with other women of my faith and sharing our testimonies with each other. I have served in many leadership and teaching positions in my faith. Right now, I feel a lot of responsibility as I serve as a leader over youth leaders and youth in my church area. It involves organizing some fairly large scale events for the youth in my area to help them strengthen their faith. I love thinking of ways to help the youth strengthen their faith. It can be pretty stressful and overwhelming at times but I have felt the strength that comes from being obedient to the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is so real and every time I have to do something that feels overwhelming to me I know Jesus will be there to strength me. That's is why being obedient is so important to me as I live my faith.
