Hi I'm Rob Whitley

I grew up in the California Bay Area, I got my GED in 2011, I'm preparing to serve my mission to Colorado, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm an avid gamer, preferring MOBA's, MMO's and RTS's. I put off college to prepare to serve my mission, and am planning on pursuing a Nursing degree when I return. I enjoy any and all Christian music, from contemporary bands like Casting Crowns, to hard rock like Disciple, and I hope to include that kind of music in my career and life. I achieved Life rank in Boy Scouts, and Able rank in Sea Scouts, and hope to participate in these programs again as an adult. I am routinely sticking my nose in a good novel, anywhere from fantasy to historical fiction, though I tend to lean towards traditional high fantasy series such as Narnia or The Tale of Drizzt Do'Urden.

Why I am a Mormon

I was technically born into the church, though I had little belief in it myself, it was something my parents talked about offhandedly on occasion and nothing more. I had a few friends growing up who were faithful and strong, and they often became role models to me, though I didn't understand why. Later as I went through high school I suffered a severe back injury which, among many other consequences, caused me to drop out of school. It was then that I truly questioned the reason for things, why I was here, why this great travesty fell upon me, why my back refused to heal for so long. One day I decided to give prayer a try and sat in my room for an hour or so praying for some sign of what I should do to start moving again. the answer came soon after in the form of an old friend I had grown up with coming to my house and inviting me out to a game night held at the church.

How I live my faith

I am one of the most social guys in my church ward, made up of young single adults in the area. The responsibility that was given to me is to help invite and teach people in the area interested in the church and help them feel welcomed in our congregation. I drive a highly fuel efficient car so I am known throughout the area for offering rides to and from anything church related, or anything else if given some notice. Additionally my friends and I do various open invite trips and activities to help foster a great camaraderie. I always become a close friend to whoever I meet, that way everyone truly knows that I am there for them should anything happen.
