Hi I'm Teresa Leiva

I'm a wife, mother, musician, choir director, piano teacher, runner. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in "Mayberry" literally. Well actually the city is called "Mt. Airy" but Andy Griffith was born there and modeled the city of "Mayberry" after my town. Yes, it is a great place to go to relax and enjoy, the simple beautiful country life. I was lucky enough to be raised by really great parents, and with 3 crazy awesome brothers. We lived very close to my grandparents and great grandparents. In fact, my great grandmother (Grandma) was my first best friend. My grandparents owned a farm, so we learned quickly what hard work in a garden will give you, and know now that hard work in life will also bring great things. As I look back on my upbringing I am overwhelmed with grattitude to my parents and grandparents, and love every wonderful memory I have with my brothers. I always loved the outdoors, the great, long lasting relationships I made with my friends. And especially the music programs I was so lucky to take part in. Today I live in northern Virginia. with my husband and our son and daughter. I don't know what I did growing up to deserve them, but I'm grateful for them every day. I am currently the choir director for my ward, and a piano teacher. Music is my passion! Sometimes dealing with others, and their personalities can be tricky, but I have learned so much and genuinely love each and every choir member, accompanists, and all of my students. I love to garden, run, camp...basically anything outdoors. And I'm totally a "talker"

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because the Gospel has been restored, and the teachings are true! I'm a Mormon because our men hold the priesthood and can bless us through this. I'm a Mormon because practicing the teachings makes me a happy and better person. I'm a Mormon because I CHOOSE to be. I'm a Mormon for every reason that you can possibly think of. The spirit that I feel when I practice the teachings and attending the meetings fills me with love, comfort and peace. I love the LDS community and the services that we provide. I love putting a smile on others faces, and it is through the things I have been taught and continue to learn that I can easily do that.

How I live my faith

I grew up as a member of the LDS church, so it was pretty much every day life for me. My mom would read scriptures to us before seminary/school and we had family home evening and were expected to be at church, on time, every Sunday. My dad was always there, and worthy to give me priesthood blessings when I needed them. I pretty much took those routines for granted, until I became and adult and it was my job to enforce them. I try daily to live like my parents, because to me they are perfect examples of Faith, Love, and Charity. Of course I believe the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love learning and growing. I love having a personal relationship with my Savior and an understanding of His atoning sacrafice. To me, if you have a relationship with Him, everything else comes easier, and falls in to place. It is much easier to be kind, when you know that you are imperfect but that the Savior loves you. In my daily life quotes, scriptures, talks, and mostly church songs pop in to my head and help me to be the kind of person I want to be, and that God wants me to be. I'm a perfectly imperfect person, but through my relationship with the Savior and His love for me I'm okay with that. I believe we are all here to grow and to learn, whatever level we're on in the moment. If I meet someone, I want them to come away feeling better for having known me. If I fail at that, then I try a little harder the next time.
