Hi I'm Emily Burt

Living in El Centro, CA. MPA Student. Mormon. Southern Utah University Thunderbird. Preparing to serve a mission!

About Me

I grew up in a Southern California town on the Mexican border and feel so grateful to have learned so much about the Mexican culture. I did my undergraduate work in Communications at Southern Utah University and loved every minute of it. I got involved with event management on campus and ended up as the Student Body Vice President in charge of Student Activities. I wanted that experience to gain event management skills but ended up loving the aspect of helping the event directors I oversaw develop into leaders. So now I'm in the Masters of Public Administration program emphasizing in Student Services so that I can continue that work. I love studying the effect of social media in Higher Education. I have currently deferred my MPA though to serve a mission. I am serving in the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission and love it! It is a surreal feeling to know you are exactly where the Lord wants you. I love seeing the difference the Gospel of Jesus Christ makes in the lives of those I am meeting. I have two amazing parents, three brothers, two sisters-in-law, one niece, two nephews, and one niece on the way! My best memories are when I'm with all of them. I love spending time with my family, playing and watching sports, traveling and learning the history of where I travel, theater, hiking, reading, and laughing till I cry.

Why I am a Mormon

While I did grow up in this church, my mom always encouraged me to learn about other faiths so that when I chose to commit myself to this gospel I would know with a surety that it was true. My conversion is simple. I asked the Lord if it was true and he confirmed it to me through the Holy Ghost. When I obey God's commandments I gain a strength, comfort, and joy that nothing else can bring me and that I can't function without.

How I live my faith

President Monson said "We cannot truly love God if we do not love our fellow travelers." I try on a daily basis to treat those around me the way my Father in Heaven would want me to. I'm not perfect, and I don't always succeed but it's a continual process of bettering myself.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Emily Burt
The scriptures are a record of how God shows love for His children. As I read the scriptures I recognize how much He loves me because I can more easily recognize that love. I feel closer to my Father in Heaven and my Savior every time I open my scriptures. I feel so blessed to live in a time where we have them on the earth. Show more Show less
