Hi I'm Garrett Petersen

I love life, I love my family and I love being a missionary! I am a Mormon.

About Me

My favorite hobbies are mountain biking, being outdoors, exercising, and playing sports! Currently, I am a full-time missionary for the church serving in the northern Virginia area.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was eight years old. At that time, I didn't realize how much that baptism entailed! In the church, we have a living prophet and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. As I have studied their counsel, along with the Bible and Book of Mormon, I have gained a far greater understanding of my baptism. I have strived to follow the example of Jesus Christ for as long as I can remember. I have found that by doing this, I have experienced tremendous happiness and peace. It has brought my family close together and I have been strengthened in difficult parts of my life as I have remained faithful. I love the opportunities that I have to serve in the church! I can apply the things I learn each day and have responsibility to serve and teach other people and also to learn from them! I have come to know the truth of the doctrine in the church through sincere study and prayer. The Book of Mormon has become very special to me as I have studied its words and prayed about the questions I have. I have found that it does bring me closer to Christ and it testifies of Him as the Savior and Redeemer of the world. I have also come to know that the church is led by revelation and authority from God. We believe in eternal family relationships that depend on our willingness to obey the promises we make with God. Much of this knowledge has come through obedience to the commandments, study, prayer, and revelation through the Holy Ghost. I want to live with Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and my family for eternity! I know that Christ makes salvation possible. I love all these blessings that come from being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I have served in the church and community in multiple congregations ever since I can remember. As a missionary, I use nearly every moment of every day helping others come unto Christ. I talk with people on streets, in their homes, and seek to serve others in many different ways! It is such a wonderful thing to be a part of! Many people wonder about the purpose of Mormon missionaries talking with people of other faiths and belief systems. In all I do, I want people to take the truth they have found in their lives and come and see if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints can add to the happiness and fulfillment they currently have. I pray daily, and study the scriptures daily in hopes of understanding Jesus Christ more and more, so that I can become like him!

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Garrett Petersen
I think that people become confused when they hear the name Mormon. The Church's official name is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Christ guides the Church by revelation through modern day prophets and apostles, just as he did during his mortal life on Earth. We are a Christian church and always will be. The name Mormon stems from the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon plays a significant role in the Church, so many people refer to Church members as "Mormons". We share a passion and love for Jesus Christ in a common way that many other Christians do. We believe in God the Eternal Father, His son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. Everything the Church does is intended to help others come unto Him. Show more Show less
