Hi I'm Derek

I was born in Arizona. I have lived in Arizona, Michigan, and Utah. I am a senior in High School. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 18 years old. I enjoy music, sports and the outdoors. I am a die-hard Phoenix Suns fan! I have been involved in sports including soccer, basketball, football, swimming, and running since I was very little. I play three instruments: Piano, trumpet, and guitar. If I had the chance I would love to learn other instruments like the bagpipes, the organ, and others. I have always had a great love for the outdoors. I have done countless activities outdoors including camping, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, repelling, kayaking and canoeing, riding quads and dirt bikes, snowmobiling and many others.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I can't afford not to be. I have received numberless blessings and gifts that come only from living the standards and commandments as taught in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have a testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. I know that Thomas S. Monson is the Prophet today. I know that because of Jesus Christ, everyone has the ability to overcome sin and death and eventually return to live in the presence of God and become like him.

How I live my faith

I try to do the small things that I believe make all the difference. I read the scriptures, pray daily, and go to church every week. My calling in the church is currently to be a "Special Needs Mutual Friend". This means that once a week every Thursday night, I get to go and be involved in activities and organized events for some of the kids my age that have certain special needs such as Autism or Down Syndrome. I also go to the Temple as often as I can.
