Hi I'm Sonya

I grew up in Canada. I am a convert. I am a Mormon!

About Me

I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. I moved to Utah to go to college where I met my husband. We have three beautiful children. I believe that the most important job I will ever have is the one I have now as a stay-at-home mom. I enjoy teaching my children and watching them grow into responsible people. In my free time I enjoy doing all things crafty- painting, sewing, creating! I also love reading. I read all kinds of genres, anything from Divergent to Nicholas Sparks to the Book of Mormon. I am currently researching women in the scriptures and love the example of the strong women who are mentioned in them. My favorite person in the scriptures is Sariah. Her example of strength, faithfulness and the love she has for her family is one that I try to exemplify in my own life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to a Catholic father so my parents had me baptized Catholic as an infant. I was raised in the faith, attending Catholic Elementary and High Schools. Unfortunately there was a lot that I didn't understand about the Catholic faith. Through a lot of hard situations I decided that it wasn't for me. My life soon took a downward dive. My life had no direction, I was unhappy and had no relationship with my family. I had hit my rock bottom. Fortunately for me, my Heavenly Father was aware of me, that I was a lost sheep who needed to be found. (See Matthew 18:12-13). He sent three very special young men to gather me in to His fold. I was walking home one day when I ran into the missionaries. I agreed that they could come to my house and give me their message. It was the best decision I have ever made because it was the one that changed my life forever. When they came they taught me about the Gospel. They taught me about My Heavenly Father, my Savior Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. They taught me about the prophet Joseph Smith. They taught me about the Book of Mormon and about a promise contained within it's words. The promise was that if I prayed to Heavenly Father, and asked if the things that they were teaching me and the things I read in the Book of Mormon were true that I would receive an answer. When we said a prayer together before they left my house I was struck with a feeling so strong that I have never and will never be able to deny it. The Holy Ghost confirmed what the missionaries had taught me. I knew then with 100% surety that this is God's church! I was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 30 days later. I have had hard times since then but the one thing that has stayed strong is my testimony of the Church. Its been nearly 14 years since the day that I was baptized but I know it as surely today as I did then.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day and I love serving in the church. Mainly I have been called to teach. When I was newly baptized I was called to be a Stake Missionary. I got the experience of serving a two year mission without having to leave home. I loved being able to share my own testimony and conversion with people who were investigating the church. I taught the young children in my church wards for a lot of years and they are such sweet spirits. Children learn so quickly and are always eager to learn more. Seeing their honest and true love for the Savior was a huge example to me. Now I am blessed to work with the women of the church. Through this calling I have seen the Lord's hand leading His church. I feel of his love for the sisters and I know that He is mindful of all of His sheep.
