Hi I'm Sam

I'm a hiker, I'm a decent photographer, I'm an avid gamer, I'm a member of the National Guard, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles in a city called Downey. I loved growing up there, especially since we were so close to the beach! Living in such a diverse and interesting place really got me interested in photography at a young age. I take pictures of everything that I can! Landscapes are one of my favorites though which is why I got into hiking. I come from a big family. I am the youngest child of fourteen kids. People ask me all the time what it was like to grow up in such a huge family. The reality is that I don't know what it would be like to have a smaller family. It really is awesome though to have such a large, diverse, and loving family! Video games, board games, movies, and music have all been a love of mine as well! I grew up playing video games and board games all the time with my brothers and today we still get together regularly to play online with each other. My family has always recognized the importance of military service as well. My dad was in the Navy, two of my brothers were Marines, one of my brothers is in the Air Force, and I just recently joined the Utah National Guard. Serving my country and my community has always been very important to me, so I am very proud to be a member of the United States military. Currently I'm living in a small town in Southern Utah called Parowan. There certainly isn't as much diversity or people out here as back in LA, but the beautiful mountains, lakes, streams, and forests more than make up for that!

Why I am a Mormon

At first I was only a Mormon because that was the faith that I was raised in. Now I know with absolute certainty that this is the only true church of Jesus Christ on the earth today. That isn't to say that other churches don't have truth or are bad, but in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints we are led and directed by Christ himself who founded this church. I know this to be true because of the confirming witness that God himself has given me. God loves each of us so perfectly that he wants us to know what is true. He wants us to know what will bring us the most peace and happiness in this life and on into the eternities. I prayed and asked God to know if this was his true church. It took more than one try as well as many different experiences and trials throughout my life, but God has confirmed its truthfulness to me by the power of the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

While I'm certainly not even close to being a perfect person, I do strive to live a moral life. Love and service to family, friends, and my community are extremely important to me. I believe that Jesus Christ displayed the perfect example of selfless service. He served and loved everyone, even when they didn't love him back. I had the opportunity to serve an LDS mission when I was twenty. I learned so much about others and about myself over the course of those two years. While I don't know if it's possible for any of us to love others as much as our Savior does, I felt like I was at least able to feel a small portion of that love towards others. I could truly see and feel how much Jesus Christ loves me as an individual even during the times that I don't feel like I deserve that love. I know that Christ loves and knows all of us individually. His love makes me want to be a better person in every aspect of my life. I try to live my faith not just on Sundays or special occasions, but in every regard. Even if others aren't of my faith or share my beliefs I want to help them and love them just as our Savior would.
