Hi I'm Alaina Roberts

I am serving as a Missionary in the Melbourne Australia speaking Mandarin Chinese.

About Me

I was born in Dallas, Texas and lived most of my childhood in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. I am 20 years old. I swam for my high school team and I went to Bandung, Indonesia as an exchange student. I attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia. I am an accounting major and a love learning new things. I have three younger siblings, a sister and two brothers. I was called to serve in Melbourne Australia as a missionary. I will be speaking Mandarin Chinese.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, my parents are active members and I was always expected to go to church and participate in church activities. When I decided that I wanted to be an exchange student to Indonesia I didn't think that it would affect my church attendance. I was very wrong. All of my host families were Muslim and it was very difficult to get to church. I self-taught myself Seminary (scripture study) for the year and I tried my best to go to church. When I was able to go to church in Indonesia, I wasn't fluent in the language and I had a very difficult time understanding the lessons. When I was living with my 3rd host family my host dad needed to go to the capital for the weekend and the whole family went with him, so I was included. It just so happened that there was an English church there and it was Easter Sunday. I cried the whole time. The joy that I felt when I walked into that building and was able to understand the words that the speakers we saying is why I have continued to be an active Mormon. I have been so blessed and I cannot imagine my life without the gospel. I constantly see how my life has been blessed by the gospel and I have no desire to leave it. I am so thankful that I have been able to separate my parents testimony from my testimony and that I now know without a shadow of a doubt that I am in the right place.

How I live my faith

I think one of the best ways I can live my faith is by participating. I have served on the family night committee. That means every Monday night I helped prepare activities for all the young single adults to do together. Most of the people in my ward do not live with their families (myself included) so we do activities together as a ward family. I was also a visiting teacher and I got to visit with other people in my ward and get to know them better. I like to participate in service, both inside the church and in the community. I know that service is a key aspect in Christ's church and I love serving others. Currently, I am living my faith by serving as a full time missionary. I have the great opportunity to teach others about Christ's gospel and help them build their faith in Jesus Christ. Everyday, I spend many hours studying and practicing so that I am more able to help others.
