Hi I'm Leslie

I view life as an exciting journey. A journey isn't complete unless we learn, grow and love along the way. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to learn! I love being able to have a question and then search for an answer whether it is on the internet or in a book! I spent 21 years teaching research skills to middle schoolers (ages 12-14) and getting them excited about reading for knowledge and enjoyment. I love words and the power and the responsibility that comes with what we say. I'm a twenty questioner. My children and grandchildren have gotten used to it. If they bring someone with them I have never met, I ask a lot of questions trying to get to know and understand them. I think it used to embarrass my family, but not so much now. I love meeting new people and establishing common ground that we can build on. I love to read the scriptures, to quilt, to sew, to sing, to play the piano, to listen to good music, to read dystopian literature, and non-fiction books about people, places and character traits. I especially love my family! Spending time with my six children, their spouses, and twenty-four grandchildren (12 boys and 12 girls) is one of my very favorite activities!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because it completes who I am. Membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has allowed me to recognize and use the gifts that God has given me. As I study the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon, I recognize eternal truths through the Spirit. I have learned that happiness comes through obedience to principles found in the teachings of Jesus Christ and being a Mormon gives me the opportunity to practice those principals daily as I strive to more fully understand and keep the covenants I have made with the Lord. I know God lives. I know he knows me personally and answers my prayers. I know that the fullness of His Gospel has been restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith. I know we have a Prophet today who guides and directs the affairs of God's church. I know that the Priesthood of God with all of the power that is found in the ancient scriptures, is again on this earth. I want everyone to experience joy. I want everyone to know that God lives and that He knows and loves them. I want everyone to feel the Spirit of the Book of Mormon, for it truly testifies of Jesus Christ. Being a Mormon helps me come to a perfect understanding of who I am and what God would have me do.

How I live my faith

My faith is very important to me. I believe it is one of the spiritual gifts I have been given. I love serving in the church and have served in many varied capacities. Because I have musical ability it seems I have often served in a musical calling. I have taught children songs about Jesus, I have directed and sung in women's groups and mixed choirs for Christmas programs and in learning and singing hymns that enhance our worship services. I spent many years teaching first aid and camping skills to girls ages 12-18. I've taken them back packing, camping, hiking and sat and sang around a campfire. I've enjoyed campfire discussions about important truths and principles to help these young women live joyful lives of peace, gratitude and thanksgiving. I love visiting with other women in my neighborhood and each month I get the opportunity to go into the homes of several women and visit with them about Jesus Christ, to help them with problems that may arise and to be a needed shoulder to cry on when necessary. I love family history. I spent a year transcribing over 60 years of my Great-Grandmother's journals and sharing them with my cousins. It got me excited to learn more about those family members who have come before me - where did they come from and how did they end up where they did? To that end I am learning how to use available internet sources to find information and documentation for dates and events from the past so that I can help others do the same.
