Hi I'm Laura Isabel da Silva

I am a happy Mormon who loves to cook, loves to read, loves sunsets, gelattos and smiley people.

About Me

I am a returned missionary from the England London Mission. I served a mission because the gospel of Jesus Christ changed my life. "I can't keep this positive change only to myself" - I thought. A few months after I was in England, speaking a foreign language, talking with everyone about the Restoration of the Gospel, the Atoning sacrifice of my Savior and the bright light that my life had become. Although I grew up being a mormon, I stopped coming to church when I was a teenager. I can say I was curious with what the world had to offer me. Several years after I found myself incomplete. I realized that what the world had to offer was not enough. The happiness I found there was so temporary and weak that I got tired of it. In those years I lost my mother and that made me ponder about afterlife and the Plan of Salvation I learned as a child. I was so miserable for months and I kept that to myself, pretending I was strong enough to bear all things. When I was a child my mother became addicted to drugs and in my rebellious teenage years I repulsed her. I never accepted her as part of my family. When she passed away the guilt took over me. Once again the Plan of Salvation and the love and mercy of Jesus Christ got my attention. I returned to church and little by little I got my own testimony. I was able to experience a deep change in my heart. My life got more meaning, my burdens were made light, peace was restored to my days... only because I choose to life in the light.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a mormon because that is the only intelligent thing to be. There's nothing in the 'mormon culture' that is against an happy mind and life. Yes, I keep the Word of Wisdom: I choose to not drink alcohol, to not smoke, to not take drugs, to not drink coffee and tea (by the way, I love herbal teas!) not only because the Prophet counseled me to, but because it's the only intelligent thing to do. Because of that smart decision, I live a healthy life I don't spend money on my physical and spiritual destruction. Yes, I live the Law of Chastity: I choose to not watch pornography, to not commit adultery, to not be involved in homosexual relationships, to not support abortion, to be modest and to save myself for my future husband, not only because the Prophet counseled me to, but because it's the only intelligent thing to do. Because I live this law I avoid broken hearts, broken families, despair, vulgarity, and I show my respect for the life and body that God has given to me and to everybody else. Yes, I keep the Sabbath Day Holy, I read my scriptures and say my prayers daily. Not because the Prophet counseled me to do so, but because it's the only intelligent thing to do. Doing those things lift me up spiritually and give me the peace of mind that everyone outside is searching for. Yes, I serve others. I try my best to love them with their faults because I have faults too. Not because the Prophet counseled me to do so, but because it's the only intelligent thing to do. When I spend my time reaching out in love for others and simply serve them, I discover my own self and my happiness. And I think being HAPPY is the most intelligent thing to be. :)

How I live my faith

Simply: The gospel of Jesus Christ is so easy to live. You will only need one thing: LOVE! A greater love for the Savior that will make you change your life and who you are. A greater love for yourself in order to make those changes and to make you inteligent enough to choose ligh over darkness. A greater love for your family that will give you the desire to live with them forever, or in other words, for eternity. A greater love for the Book of Mormon, great enough to make you desire to read from it every single day. And last, but not least, a greater love for your brothers and sisters outside. A love so imense that you will always open your mouth to declare your love for them, for the Savior and His Restored Gospel. Basically, I live my faith with love! Always following Mormon invitation: "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen."
