Hi I'm Shayla

I was born and raised in the city of Enoch, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy called Spinal Muscular Atrophy or SMA. Even though I have been in a wheelchair my entire life, I have tried not to let that hold me back. I have been camping, horse back riding and even on a hot air balloon ride. I attended college for two years, graduating with an Associates Degree. I love to travel, read and spend time enjoying my Father in Heaven's creations.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints but realized early on that the gospel of Jesus Christ makes me happy. Being a Mormon doesn't change how living with SMA affects my life, but it does give me hope and encouragement. It also teaches me that I have a Father in Heaven who will always be there for me if I will just turn to him in prayer. I am grateful for all the blessings in my life; things like family, friends, knowledge and my religion.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by working with the children and youth. I teach them that everyone has a disability, some are just easier to see than others. We all need to be more accepting of others. We can love people without changing or compromising who we are. We also need to not expect them to change for us.
