Hi I'm Devan

I'm a student at Brigham Young University. I am serving a full time mission in Culiacan, Mexico. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the middle child of ten kids with five brothers and five sisters--basically like the Brady Bunch. My parents are divorced, and as a consequence, I have this amazing and large family. I grew up in Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California. I like to scuba dive, hike, dance, play soccer, and read. I am currently going to school and still deciding what I want to study.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I was born into the church. Of course, it was my choice whether or not I wanted to be baptized, and whether or not I wanted to participate in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My dad has been an active member my entire life, along with my wonderful step-mom, but my biological mom was not an active member. I had two parents, and siblings, who lived very different lives and it was up to me to decide how I wanted to live my own life. However, I read The Book of Mormon and prayed about it to find out if it was true and if it was another testament of Jesus Christ. I found our for myself that it was indeed true! Therefore, I decided to live my life in accordance with the guidelines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and get baptized. I know that The Book of Mormon is the most correct book on earth and that by reading it daily and acting in accordance with the doctrine therein, I will live the best life, for me personally, possible. I know that Jesus Christ is our savior and redeemer and that it is only by, and through Him, in which we are saved from our sins.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by carrying out my duty as a member of the church. I help plan and carry out monthly events for the members of our church--specifically for the women who are 18 and older. I go to church every week, and in addition I am taking a class to further study The Book of Mormon. In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, women who are 18 and older are assigned a partner with whom they go and teach other women of the church each month. We call this visiting teaching and the purpose is to go and serve the Lord's children. We prepare a small lesson about Christ and His church to share with the women we are going to teach and usually just visit with them to see how they're doing, what's going on in their life, and if there is anything we can do to help them. This is what I do each month with my roommate. Also, I am serving a full time mission in Mexico.
