Hi I'm Todd Okeson

I grew up in China, I love math and playing volleyball; however, I gave it all up to serve a mission in Taiwan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Taipei Taiwan and am absolutely loving it. Before I left for my mission, I studied Applied Mathematics at Brigham Young University Idaho for a year and before that, I spent a majority of my life living outside of the United States for my Dad's work. I am the middle child, with two brothers and two sisters and an amazing Mom and Dad. The biggest thing about my family is that we all love to be outside, play sports, and play games. We are also really big fans of traveling. Because of all of the different opportunities that we have had to live and travel outside of the United States, almost all of my favorite memories were from those trips that we would make together as a family.

Why I am a Mormon

To put it simply, I am a Mormon because I know that the Church is true. It all began with reading the Book of Mormon and praying about it. Ever since I was young, my parents taught me that the best way to learn about something is to study it. Applying that principle, the best way to learn about the gospel is to study its teachings. By doing so, I was able to experience a feeling that I had never really felt before, which in the Church is described as the Holy Ghost. For me, that feeling I experienced was a peace that came from knowing the truth of where I came from and what I am here to do. Now, because of those simple truths I felt years ago, I've decided to serve as a missionary for the Church. Another reason why I am Mormon is because of the principles I have learned from my youth. The feelings of peace and happiness that come from the simple truths of God being our loving Heavenly Father and eternal families are so amazing. Those are two very common principles that are taught, but there are so many more that can be found in the Book of Mormon if you are willing to take the chance to study and learn from it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by living its teachings. Before I became a missionary for the Church, the way that I lived the teachings of the Church were by actively participating in ward activities, reading the scriptures and praying often. Along with those three things, living my faith includes so much more. It is not just a twenty or thirty minute thing every day or week. Living my faith means that every minute of every day I am trying to do my best to follow Christ's example in what I do and say. Now, as I am a missionary for the Church in Taiwan, I live my faith by consistently sharing it with everyone I meet on the street. At first, I really felt weird about sharing my beliefs, but over these last few months I have seen that sharing this gospel really has been able to help others' lives. I am truly grateful for the opportunity that I have been given to share my faith and also see how it is affecting the lives of the Taiwanese people.
