Hi I'm Courtney Black

I've grown up in a military family, I've traveled the world, I love the beach, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hey! I'm Courtney and I'm a freshman in college at BYU. I love to read and have a passion for learning new things. I love the performing arts! Musicals are my favorite shows to be in and watch, and I play three different instruments. My dad is in the Air Force, so I've gotten to live in a lot of diverse places! I've moved seven times in fifteen years, and one of those moves was all the way across the Atlantic Ocean to Italy! Due to all of these moves, I've spent every year of middle school in a different corner of the globe, and I loved it! Moving is fun for me, and I really do enjoy it. I'm the oldest of five kids, and my siblings are some of my best friends. Airplanes are my favorite form of transportation, and I've read every Harry Potter book a hundred times over. I really enjoy learning Spanish, and I love to meet new people.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but that does not mean that I'm forced to be a member. I have grown to know on my own and for myself, that this church is the true church of Jesus Christ. I love this gospel with all of my heart. I know that He is my Savior and Redeemer. I know that He lives! I know that He loves me, and I know that He loves you! The concept that my Savior and Redeemer knows MY name, loves ME, and wants the best for ME, just fills my heart with joy. Imagine what a concept that is... the Creator of space and time, the most perfect man who has ever lived, who has numbered the grains of sand and the stars in the sky, loves you, and He loves me. I know that The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. I know that it is the perfect companion to the Bible, and that without The Book of Mormon and the Bible together, we would not have the fullness of Christs gospel. I love the standards of this church. I love how they help me be a better, and more Christlike person. I'm not perfect in any way, but I know that by living the standards set forth by the living prophet, I can become more perfect, and more Christlike. The theme for the youth this year is "Come Unto Christ and Be Perfected In Him." (Moroni 10:32 found in The Book of Mormon) This theme is all about teaching us, the young people to become more Christlike, and to grow closer to our Father in Heaven and our Savior. I know that there are living prophets on the Earth today. I know that Joseph Smith was the first prophet in these, the latter days. I know that Joseph Smith restored the fullness of the gospel to Earth and brought about the translation of the Book of Mormon. I love this gospel, and I am proud to say that I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day; and that's not just because I now go to a church school. High school was a complete battlefield in terms of living what I believe. Many young people my age did not hold the same standards that I do in terms of language, modesty, or our health code, otherwise known as the Word of Wisdom. I do not swear or use profanity, or make crude and vulgar remarks or jokes. I do not show my stomach, or wear tight or revealing clothing. Even when swimming, I will wear a one piece bathing suit rather than a bikini. Living in the Southern US, this really set me apart from the other girls my age. We lived at the beach and the pool, and it wasn't uncommon for me to be the only one there in one piece. However, this never bothered me. I love being the person that stands apart from the crowd and is unique in how I live my life. I love being a member of this church.
