Hi I'm Kelsie

I am a 21 year old college student. I'm a country girl from Idaho. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

One of my favorite things to do is play volleyball. I'm not on a team, but being at college, I have different groups I get play with all the time. I love every second of it! I also love playing the piano, running hurdles, singing, old movies, ice cream, and thunderstorms. At the moment I am a Freshman in college majoring in Communication Studies. Even though it can be hard going to school and working at the same time, I have absolutely loved college life. I have made the best friends and best memories this year!

Why I am a Mormon

Although I have grown up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I have not always had a firm knowledge that this gospel is true. Growing up I just followed my parents' examples by going to church and living inside the church's standards. What I didn't realize until later is through all those years there were bits and pieces of knowledge that fit together to build the foundation for what I know now. That's the amazing part of this gospel. There is always something new to learn, and it's amazing how perfectly every aspect of the church fits together. I know that this gospel is true, without a doubt. Joseph Smith really did restore it to the earth today. I know that the Lord lives and loves us more than words can say. I know that even though not one of us is perfect, all that is expected of us is that we try our hardest to be better than we were the day before. What makes it even better is that Christ is by our side every step of the way. I am so grateful for this gospel. It has truly changed my life for the better!

How I live my faith

Right now one of my responsibilities in the church is to plan different activities for all the women in my ward. That has been such a great experience for me, and has helped me branch out and meet more people in my ward. Also, I received a mission call about two weeks ago! Deciding whether or not I should go on a mission has been a pretty long process for me. I knew what a big commitment a mission is, so I didn't want to just jump in without knowing for sure that I should go. After lots of prayer and long talks with my parents and my older brother, I finally knew that a mission is something I wanted to do. I know that I will never be able to repay the Savior for all he has sacrificed for me, but I feel like serving a mission is a small step in the right direction. This church has influenced my life so much for good, and I want to help others have that same influence in their life.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Kelsie
All Mormons are not required to serve missions. It is a personal decision that each person makes before serving, which is generally between the ages of 18-21 years old. For me, I wasn't planning on serving a mission at first, but after a lot of contemplation, I am now going to be a full time missionary for a year and a half. Yes, a mission is a big commitment. I have to leave college, my friends, my job, and my family, but the thing is, I know this is the right thing to do, and I can't wait to get out and serve the Lord! Show more Show less
