Hi I'm Kirk Whitaker

I grew up in a small town in Illinois. I am a sports reporter who loves to sing and play piano. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a reporter for our local weekly newspaper, mainly covering sports, and I also enjoy playing the piano and singing. I was in a choir from fourth grade until I graduated high school, and I have played the piano since first grade. I am a social science education major and I made the Dean's List last semester. I will be reporting to the Provo MTC on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, to prepare to serve in the Ecuador Guayaquil North Mission where I will preach the gospel in Spanish for two years.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I know the teachings of the church are true. I have fasted, read scriptures, researched, and prayed many times to know this and I cannot and will not deny what I have felt. I know that our Heavenly Father answers our prayers. I prayed to him about the validity of the Church as a whole, the Book of Mormon, and many other things, and every time he has answered my prayers and helped me know the Church is true in every way. I know the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price are the words of God, and they go hand in hand together to teach us what we need to know. I know Thomas S. Monson is the Lord's prophet today, just as Joseph Smith Jr was in the beginning of the church. I know that our Savior Jesus Christ lives. I know that he loves us, and he died for us that we may have a means to be forgiven of our sins and eventually go home and live with our Heavenly Father. I know if people will give the Church a legitimate chance, they will see the good in it no matter their age.

How I live my faith

I am in the ward Sunday School presidency, I am the pianist for Priesthood opening exercises, on top of being the ward choir director. I have gone and helped missionaries teach investigators before as well.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Kirk Whitaker
The Atonement of Christ happened when the Savior took upon himself all our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane so we had the chance to return home to live with our Heavenly Father. Without the Atonement, nobody could dwell in heaven with our Heavenly Father because no unclean thing can dwell in the Kingdom of Heaven. With the Atonement, we can go Home. He did it out of love for us. Show more Show less
