Hi I'm George

I am a retired geologist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the US and overseas because my father was career Army. I am married and have 4 adult children, 3 sons and a daughter. I am retired. I was a geologist working for the federal government. I am also retired from the Navy Reserves (SeaBees). I am interested in history, cultures, religions, and languages.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church when I was 17 years old. Missionaries came to my home while I was away. The Elders were invited in because my family has had a tradition of always being hospitable to LDS missionaries. They were teaching a discussion, and then I came home. I was the only one of my family to join the church at the time. About a year later my sister also was baptized. I was impressed with Joseph Smith's first vision. I always thought that there should be living prophets, like in the Bible. I felt the way it is described in Alma chapter 32, because my understanding began to expand, and it all became delicious to me. I was baptized in a pond on the Bishop's farm. I have since read the Book of Mormon numerous times, and continue to re-read it. I am continually impressed with the truths found in that book. The book's main theme is Jesus Christ and the atonement. I served a 2 year mission when I was 21 years old. It was hard being a missionary, but I never regret the experience. I am particularly thankful that I married my wife in the temple for time and all eternity. The Holy Ghost continues to witness to me of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and this Church, even now as I write this.

How I live my faith

I have enjoyed working with youth, and in scouting. I am impressed with how intelligent and dedicated the youth in the church are. I am still involved in a scout fund raising project. I particularly enjoyed my time as a temple ordinance worker. I love the peaceful feeling I get in the temple. When I am at church on Sundays I feel the presence of God, because the Holy Ghost is there. A lot of times I feel this particularly when Hymns are sung. I like to help out on Saturday mornings with the cleaning and set up of the church for Sunday meetings. One of the great things I have experienced is getting to know the other members, which I have done by serving in various church callings.
