Hi I'm Jay

I was born in London and grew up in Florida. My parents are Hindu and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 39 year old father of 5 children whose current hobby is weight loss. I figured out I won't be able to play ball with my kids if I weigh almost 300 pounds. So, I got some medical advice and monitoring and started getting back into shape. I started by following the recommended diet and even though it was Christmas and New Years I stuck to it. I then found a way to work out 3 times a week. After a few weeks I figured out how to work out 5 times a week. I have now lost 40 pounds and am determined to continue. I am a full-time technophile, early adapter, beta-version junky. I love learning about the up and coming new thing and have been there to clap the first purchaser in to the Apple store. My wife and I have known each other since we were 14, friends since we were 17, and "never-be more-than-friends" until 26 when she finally realized I was the love of her life and hasn't been able to do without me since.

Why I am a Mormon

I received a Book of Mormon when I was 18, but didn't do more than put it on the shelf. When I was 20 i was invited to church by a friend and felt the peace of the Holy Ghost. I wanted to learn more and the sign said "visitors welcome", so I tried going back during the week to talk to someone. I didn't realize the members were at their various places of work and the missionaries don't live at the church. A couple months later I was introduced to the missionaries through playing volleyball. The asked if I would like to learn more, but I was concerned about repercussions from my family who are very devout Hindus. I kept wanting to learn more so I finally invited them to teach me the lessons. I never understood before the role of Christ as my personal Savior. I then went with them to help teach others, but I did not join the church out of respect for my family and their beliefs. After almost a year, I was baptized. It was hard for my family and I am thankful for good friends who helped them and me through that difficult time. My family have come to the blessing and naming of all of our children and will be their for each of the children's baptisms. I love the strength that the teachings of Jesus Christ bring to me and my family every day.

How I live my faith

I've spent the last five years working with 12-18 year old boys, helping in the Boy Scouts and helping prepare them for adulthood. I was able to plan activities that help them strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ and increase their self worth. I love serving the families my local leaders assign. Visiting these families give me opportunities to share my testimony of Jesus Christ and the plan our Heavenly Father.
