Hi I'm Nick Terry

More later, for now: I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and father to 4 children. I work as a software engineer and love to work on various coding projects in my spare time.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the Holy Ghost. I've used the Holy Ghost as the primary tool to follow a spiritual scientific method. I love how the scientific method increases and refines scientific knowledge. Just as with science there is a procedure to follow that will confirm truths, increase knowledge, and refine what you've got. The primary difference between science and spiritual experiments: there are ingredients and steps in the procedure that are not externally quantifiable. For instance, you must earnestly seek the answer. But, how would one accurately measure earnestness? Here is a fun thought experiment. Could you convince John who is identical to you in every way except he was raised an atheist to become a Mormon? In my case the answer is a distinct maybe. I was raised Mormon, so when the moment came were I had to decide for myself, I was already comfortable with the steps. If I can get John comfortable enough with the spiritual scientific method to try it out with the vigor that we both use science, then the answer is yes he'll convert. It's inevitable once spiritual truths start to increase and be refined. I served a mission. I've seen this play out several different ways. The only way it can work in the long term is via the Holy Ghost. So if John wants nothing to do with spiritual matters or things that can't be externally measured, there is nothing I can do. God communicates with humanity. The Holy Ghost is the guiding tool I use to discern spiritual truths. Some of the ones I've collected so far: Jesus Christ is the Savior. The Book of Mormon is what it claims to be. Joseph Smith was the designated human to get this whole thing kick-started. The LDS church is Christ's church and it is lead by a prophet, the human designated to be in charge.

How I live my faith

I am the Cubmaster for one of the local cub scout troops. The key is to be loud and active. I might teach the boys something but generally pack meeting is about celebrating their achievements. Currently, my wife and I drag our 4 young children to church at 9:00 am. Let me tell you that takes some faith and dedication. Every Sunday the though creeps in, "Maybe we could just go late". But I want my children to understand how important this is to me. Just saying it isn't enough, showing is as important.
