Hi I'm Barbara

I am a 20 something enthusiastic Chilean who grew up in the USA and later found my home in Australia.

About Me

I am the oldest child in a blended family who has three younger siblings who have been called back to live with their Father in Heaven. My sister passed away from cancer at the age of 9, and my two brothers passed away when they were born. I worked at a legal firm in admin support as a secretary and have been called to serve a mission in Argentina. I hope to study one day soon but I'm not 100% sure what it will be, although I would love to become a social worker - my tertiary future is something i'll definately further pray about and consider once I return from serving my full-time mission.I am also a photography enthusiast and hope to one day expand my amateur skills and be a professional photographer part time. I was raised in a situation in which some of my birth family were abusive and I struggled with addiction for a large portion of my life thus far but thanks to a loving Dad who brought me into a much better family situation with a new amazing faith filled Mum in Australia - I was enabled to overcome my addictions and my own lack of faith and desire for good and become the truely happy and enthusiastic person I am today.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because this church has brought me the closest to Christ that I have ever been. I have seen the positive effect it has had on my parents as they lived their faith and I have seen them change and evolve into the most amazing people. Their Christlike love and manor motivated me to change and to find out for myself whether or not this was Christ's gospel and just like membership and faithfulness in Christ's church brought them closer to Christ, it has also brought me to Christ and I have never been happier. I continue to follow Christ's gospel because it has enabled me to overcome addiction and change my hard unfeeling heart which I chose to have for some time. This church has pointed me to the way, Christ's way, to be happy and I have truly found that happiness here. Everything about this church, is centered on Christ, my Saviour, and the Saviour of the world and because of that, I know it is truly His church. It is set up exactly the way Christ set it up in the Bible and so I know that this church today is exactly how Christ intended His church to be. I have also prayed, and received a witness, that this is His Church, His true church on the earth today and I also know that anyone who wishes to be better, and find greater happiness in Christ can pray and come to know if this is His way also because He has done it for me and will do it for anyone else who is earnestly seeking the truth - that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I must be honest and say, although I was raised a Latter-day saint, I didn't always live my faith. However, since I realized the unhappiness that this was bringing me, I can now happily say I do try and live my faith. The most basic way I try to live my faith is by turning away from sin - especially the addictions I have struggled with. I live my faith by being open about these struggles and letting people know that there is a "balm in Gilead" (Jer 8:22) and we can be healed through faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement regardless of what we have become or done. I would hope that any goodness or good changes that have been brought about in my life since turning back to Christ would help others come to Christ also. I also try to live my faith by letting others know that they are loved and cared for as I know its been the biggest strength to me understanding and knowing that my Heavenly Father loves me and all of us. These things may seem small - I mean, I haven't found a solution for world hunger or any epidemics troubling the world today but I can make a difference in the lives of those around me. Everyone deserves to be happy and feel loved - that is what we came here for and because of that, every person is worth every and any effort I can put in in my day-to-day life like an inspired Book of Mormon prophet said "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass" (Alma 37:6).
