Hi I'm Garrett

I grew up in Wyoming. I love the outdoors. I am soon to be serving a mission in Singapore. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am getting ready to graduate from high school and move on in life. I am extremely excited. I have done Speech and Debate in High School and loved it. I became a state champion recently in Policy Debate. I love working and have a small family business that I work in the summertime. The outdoors have always been a special place for me. I grew up hunting, fishing, camping, off-roading, and doing just about whatever I could in the backcountry.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a member of this Church and have loved it all of my life. For a time, I relied on the faith of my parents, but during my teenage years, I decided that I wanted and needed to find out for myself if the Gospel of Jesus Christ as taught in our faith is true so I could continue to look to it in my life as I served a mission and pursued a career, or if I needed to look for happiness elsewhere. I sought out answers in the scriptures and the words of living prophets. I prayed for help and to know of the truth of the things I was learning and received answers from the Spirit of God in the forms of of peace and good feelings. As I learned and implemented principles in my life, I could feel positive changes in my life and knew what I was doing was right as God continued to bless my life. I learned that I could rely on Jesus Christ, His Atonement, and my Heavenly Father for just about everything in life-ranging from AP Calculus to overcoming sin and temptation, if only I would pray and have faith. I know my Savior is the one I have to look to for salvation in life and redemption and eternal life in the life to come. Ways of life that are accepted by society and promoted in popular culture don't really promote true and lasting happiness or things of worth, and we need something to stand for, to look to, and to hold on to, and our Savior Jesus Christ offers all of these things. I feel His love in my life and see His influence in the world around me. His work and my faith in Him drive me forward with hope and love. I know the Gospel is true. It brings me peace and happiness in life. God lives, loves us, and is willing to help us become better because He wants us to return to Him and be like Him. We can learn of Him through the Bible, Book of Mormon, and other true books of scripture, and by listening to the prophets He has called to lead us back to Him in modern days. I love being a Mormon with all of my heart.

How I live my faith

My faith leads me to pray to my Heavenly Father daily and to study the words of His Prophets, both ancient and living, as much as possible. Doing so helps me avoid temptation and negativity that is prevalent in the world around us. I set Monday nights aside as much as possible for family. On these nights, we gather as a family and have a brief Gospel-oriented lesson and discussion, usually followed by a game and treats. On Wednesday nights, I get to meet with other youth my age and hang out, learn life skills, and participate in enjoyable activities that help us meet new friends and have very unique and memorable experiences. I take the Ten Commandments quite literally and try my best to keep the Sabbath Day holy by attending church meetings to better myself spiritually and by trying to avoid doing things like work and play that can be carried out during weekdays. Sunday is often times a great day for me to rest and recharge a bit instead of staying busy keeping up with the world like I normally would.
