Hi I'm Wes Carson

I'm a child of the 50's, barely survived the 60's, and found eternal happiness in the 70's. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a "boomer" -- born in 1950 in Bethesda, Maryland. I experienced the 60's, playing guitar in rock bands, and limped into the 70's without much hope for a future. But then I met a couple of missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The restoration of the gospel in modern times resonated with me. It changed my life and gave me direction. Renewed in spirit and intellect, I got an education and enjoyed a satisfying career in law and telecom. Now we have family owned businesses focused on serving people. Most importantly, I have a wife, children and grandchildren who mean the world to me. I'm a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I wandered down some strange roads looking for truth and the meaning of life during the 60's. Then I met two missionaries from the Church who shared with me the testimony of Joseph Smith. Could this young man truly have had a vision of the Father and the Son, and have been directed to restore the Church of Jesus Christ in these last days? The Holy Ghost touched my heart and confirmed to my mind that Joseph was indeed a Prophet of God. It's difficult to put into words exactly how that occurred, but it most surely did. And 42 years later I have had so many confirming spiritual witnesses of the truthfulness of the Gospel ... that God lives, that Jesus is the Christ, that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has restored the power and authority of God for the salvation and exaltation of His children.

How I live my faith

Education and career moves took us back and forth across the country, and all the way north to Alaska. Everywhere we have gone we have been supported by local Church members and also had opportunities to serve others. As a recent convert, I had the privilege of serving a full-time mission in California. Since then I've worked mostly with youth, but also with young adults and adults. One of the greatest experiences of my life was to serve as a Bishop of a local congregation in Washington, and then again in Alaska. What a beautiful opportunity that afforded me to be involved in the lives -- the joys and sorrows, successes and challenges -- of wonderful people! And now I'm back where I started, working locally as a missionary to try to share the good news of the gospel.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Wes Carson
We believe that the word of the Lord, as found in scripture, is a source of truth and light to illuminate our souls. All of the scriptures are a source of this truth and light. With regard to the Book of Mormon specifically, however, there is a promise that if one reads it, ponders it, and in sincere prayer asks God if it is true, the truth of it will be made known by the power of the Holy Ghost. But further, if one gains the sure witness that the Book of Mormon is true, that same Spirit will confirm that Jesus is the Savior, that Joseph Smith is a Prophet, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's restored organization for the blessing and salvation of God's children. And with that knowledge a person finds direction and meaning in life that leads to great joy and happiness, both here in mortality and in the life hereafter. Show more Show less
