Hi I'm Byron Erath

I'm from the Northwest, now living in the Northeast. I'm an engineer, a Professor, a cyclist, and a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband of 10 years to a wonderful wife. I relocated to the Northeast to be a college professor in mechanical engineering. I enjoy teaching, and performing research in fluid mechanics. In my spare time I ride bicycles for fun (after racing as an amateur for 15+ years), and have taken up cross-country skiing to help me get through the long cold winters here.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because of the happiness and joy that it brings to my life. Understanding my purpose in this life helps me to keep things in perspective and reminds me to focus on the aspects that are most important to me; family, service, and loving those around me. This is easiest to do when I strive to follow the example of Jesus Christ. As I read the scriptures, attend church meetings, and pray regularly, I learn how to follow Jesus Christ while also developing the faith and strength to do so. As I seek to follow Jesus Christ in my life it brings me lasting joy and peace.

How I live my faith

I enjoy being actively involved in my congregation. Throughout my life I have had opportunities to serve in various capacities within the different congregations that I have attended. However, the most rewarding experiences I have had as a member of the Mormon church come from the home teaching program. This program pairs church members together to visit the homes of other church members on a monthly basis and assist them in whatever help they may need. Taking the time out of a seemingly busy life to visit others, strengthen their testimony of the gospel, and offer service to their family, has been a rewarding experience and has forged strong bonds of friendship that I cherish. Likewise, accepting members to come visit my home has been a great blessing to my wife and I as we have been able to rely upon them in times of need.
