Hi I'm Rich

I'm a physician with 6 daughters. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a happily married busy father of six daughters, three in college and three at home. I am a medical doctor and a teacher with work in end-of-life care, geriatrics, and general medicine. I love the outdoors: skiing, hiking, golf.

Why I am a Mormon

The Book of Mormon is an undeniable testament of Jesus Christ, and of the reality of the LDS church. The existence of the book is its own proof, and anyone who has read even a small portion of the book can not say that it was written by a man. I have read the book more than 40 times, and know without any doubt that it is an inspired book of scripture. I am a scientist, a doctor, a well-educated person, but the Book of Mormon demonstrates to me the reality of our spiritual existence.

How I live my faith

I love participating in the many opportunities that the church offers. I have been a youth leader, a Scoutmaster, a Sunday School teacher, a secretary for the Bishop, and many other positions. I currently have a speaking assignment and am asked to prepare a sermon once a month for different congregations. I most recently spoke on reaching out to serve and fellowship people around us: "enlarge the place of thy tent; stretch forth the curtains of thine habitation; spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes" (Isaiah 54:2).

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Rich
Serving as a missionary in Taiwan was a great experience for me. It was very difficult, the hardest two years of my life. But the growth and rewards have shaped the rest of my life. A mission is hard because you want to help people, to teach the gospel, and to bring others unto Christ. But people are busy, pre-occupied, disinterested, and complacent. Each day we would go out and try to tell people about the church, but it was rare to find someone willing to listen. I continue to have strong desires for others around me to enjoy the blessings of church membership. It's one thing to believe in Christ and to be baptized by proper authority into His kingdom, but the blessing of fellowship into the church exceeds the simple ordinance of baptism. Hundreds of thousands of people each year come to realize that being a part of the Lord's church is not a sacrifice, but a great enhancement to life. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Rich
As a doctor, some aspects of the Word of Wisdom are obvious: smoking, drugs. But others are unclear. For example, modern medical advice suggests drinking a glass of red wine daily to improve heart health, and we've been unable to find clear medical issues with coffee and tea. These are things I accept by faith and obedience, and I truly feel blessed for believing that this is God's will for us, not just a rule created by man. Show more Show less
