Hi I'm Helen

I grew up in Sandy City, Utah. I have been through a lot of happiness and trials in my life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I married at 18 years old. I had 6 children ranging from age 5-18, when my husband and I divorced. I was 37. After a year I met a great man, he was a widower with 7 children ranging from age 7-17. We married and have tried, sometimes successful, sometimes not so successful, to blend the 2 families. (We have gone to many different counselors) Me and my new husband was blessed with another child. Together, we have 14 children, 38 grandchildren (2 that will be born this year), 8 step grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. We have a lot of birthday parties we go to. While raising all 14 children, I worked over 20 years, first part time, then full time for JC Penney at the Shared Services in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am now retired. We adopted one of our grandsons when he was 5 but because circumstances we gave him up when he was 9 (he was adopted by another family soon after). I enjoy shopping, and crafts, and decorating Christmas trees for people. I have over 45 totes full of Christmas decorations that I use to decorate the trees with. I enjoy TV, reading and playing Sudoku.

Why I am a Mormon

Being raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I never questioned if the teachings were true until I was 23 year old, with three children of my own. I remember I was about to read from the Book of Mormon, when all of a sudden a thought enter my mind, is this stuff my parents taught me was true? I knew I needed, at that moment, to know. I put the book down, went into my bedroom, knelt down and said a prayer asking our Father in Heaven if the book was true and if what I had been taught as a youth was correct? I was expecting the answer to take a while to receive and was startled when the sprit testified to me almost immediately. The feeling, a warmth that filled my entire bosom came over me. It left no doubt in my mind, that the Book of Moron is true and also the gospel principles that I had been taught. From that moment on I have never doubted that answer. I am a Mormon because the Holy Ghost witnessed to my spirit that the Church of Jesus Christ is true. I testify that God lives, I know he hears and answers sincere prayers. I know that His greatest desire is to help us in our efforts to live the gospel so we will be able to live with him again. I know Jesus is our Savior, Redeemer, Advocate with God and Friend. I testify that Christ atoned for our sins and if we'll have faith in Him, endure the trials that may come at us and keep his commandments, that atonement will take effect for us and we will be clean. I testify the Holy Ghost is a member of the God head. He can be our constant companion if we strive to live righteously. I testify that Joseph Smith was called of God to restore the church back to the way Christ set it up, with the proper authority.. By trying my best to live the gospel principles, I have felt joy inside me that words can not describe. I know all can feel that same joy by obeying the principles of the gospel with a true and honest heart. Again I testify I know the church is true.

How I live my faith

When our children were young, I helped in organize programs for the girls in the elementary school. I have serve in the cub scout organization as a den mother. I have taught the youth and have been a basketball coach for a group of girls in the area for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I taught young children in our ward for more than 20 years. I have been chairman over all ward activities and wrote and directed a ward road show (several wards each have the youth act in a play on a stage before a large audience, they move the show to different ward buildings). I have served as a leader in the women's organization in the church and also was their teacher for many years. I just completed two years of helping patrons in the Quirrah Temple and South Jordan, Utah. I have been a visiting teacher going on 47 years.
